In the U. S., one Jewish woman was save from the Triangle Shirt Waste Fire, because she wouldn't break Shabbat. Workers were told that if they didn't come in on Saturday, then shouldn't bother coming in on Monday. Bessie Cohen had almost gone to work, but then remembered her commitment to her mother to keep Shabbat, so did not go into to work, which happened to be the day of the fire.
