"50 Is The Number of Transcendence"

14 Kislev 5784

...So says the author of the book Jewish Wisdom in the Numbers.

50 Israelis were to be released beginning on the 50th day of their captivity that began on the 50th anniversary of the Yom Kippur War.  That day was Simchat Torah and, according to the Rokeach, the singular form of the word Torah appears 50 times in the Torah text.  The 50th year of the shmitta cycle is the Yovel - national liberation, but 50 is perhaps most familiarly identified with the counting of the Omer which takes us from the Exodus to the receiving of the Torah.  According to the Sfat Emet, there are 50 references to the Exodus in the Torah.

...The momentous event that commemorates the birth of the Children of Israel as a nation was the exodus from Egypt.  Not only is there a twice-daily remembrance of this milestone, but much of mitzvah observance is marked by repeated references to the Exodus.  Its central importance is due to this event celebrating the Jewish People’s brand-new state of existence.

Their deliverance was not only from physical slavery but also from the Egyptian worldview.  The Exodus released them from an outlook constrained by the natural realm. The redemption catapulted Israel into an alternate state of reality.  They exchanged the restricted for the unrestricted, the natural for the supernatural, and the ordinary for the extraordinary.  It was the seminal event that would define what Israel had now become: God’s Chosen People.  Their transcendental quality was now evident in the aftermath of their trailblazing liberation.

The historic event of the Exodus is mentioned in the Torah a total of 50 times.  And the redemption process which started on the first day of Pesach finally reached its completion stage 50 days later at Sinai.  Indeed, God freed the Children of Israel in order that they accept the Torah. The Divine instruction given to Moshe at the burning bush was to lead Israel out of Egypt and bring the nation to serve God at that mountain. – Shavuot: day 50.

The 50 stages of redemption required a minimum 49-day interval for their national metamorphosis.  Prior to their liberation, the Children of Israel had sunk to the nadir of spiritual impurity: the 49th level of impurity.  The Exodus introduced a spiritual cleansing process.  Israel embarked upon a gradual path of ascension, one level after another.  Theirs was a phenomenal rise from their degraded position on the 49th gate of impurity up to the 49th gate of purity.  Finally, they arrived at the highest spiritual pinnacle on the 50th day.

...The creation of Israel in the 50 days between Passover and Shavuot ties into another aspect of symbolism found in this number.  God created the universe with the 50 Gates of Understanding.  The 50 Gates relate to the ascending spiritual levels within the world through which man must pass in order to uncover the inner secrets of creation and in order to comprehend the powers, capabilities, and life forces within.

In a sense, the 50 Sha’arei Binah signify the distance of how far removed man is from God’s wisdom.   It is incumbent upon man to pass through these Gates of Understanding in a journey to uncover the Divine wisdom hidden in the words of Torah.  This often involves the deductive reasoning of understanding, (“bina” in Hebrew) to derive “one thing from something else.” “Bina” is cognate to “bein”, between, which indicates the gap that man must bridge in order to approach his Creator. In a video shiur from a few days ago, Rabbi David Toledano said, if my translation is correct, the following:

"...these 50 Hostages will trigger a new phase in the geulah since we are going to release the sparks and therefore the Clipa will fall...you saw that we are stagnating a little bit, we are in a phase we say to ourselves what is this, how is it going to happen in the North, the other fronts and everything and it stagnates, why because now we are in this phase as soon as they come out you will see, remember the next few days it will be a new phase, in a new dimension,"....
[And this is where he brings in the story from Rabbi David Abuchatzeira that we are moving from the contractions stage to the birth stage of geulah. He continues...]
The original plan was that the same thing that happened in the south was supposed to happen at the same time also from the North and also across Judea and Samaria, but it was "softened" and the South took a big hit, but that brought us to the end of the "contractions" phase and now with the release of the fifty hostages who are specially chosen neshamot,, we are going to move into a more merciful time with big open miracles - the "birth" of Mashiach.

In light of this, I find it highly significant that the foreigners who have been released were counted separately and the "50" are the Israelis.

IMPORTANT NOTE!  It was brought to my attention (thank you, Batya) that according to many comments to the Youtube video written by persons claiming to have personally heard the Rav's shiur, what was posted here earlier in the name of the Yanuka was misrepresented.  My profound apologies.

  1. This is amazing that we finally are about to witness Moshiach’s arrival. I have several friends completely broken about the war and suffering and have not left their homes much here in Israel, and a few abroad, because they feel so broken and in fear of years or regional conflict ahead. One friend was even convinced we have to wait until Motzei Shemitah 5780 for Moshiach. No idea how anyone can see the world continuing this way another 6-7 years. I must share this with them, especially the video of the holy Yanukah saying Moshiach is coming now during the war. He might be one of the holiest men in Eretz Yisrael and I have tremendous respect for him.

  2. The Man Who Raised the Alarm
I continue to maintain that the US and Saudia Arabia were behind this, not Iran, despite Iran arming Hamas. It was easy to blame it on them because it is what people would expect, given the history. Here is a little more history about the man I have also always maintained was their "inside man."

    "The gloomy picture becomes clearer:
He who delivered Hebron, Jericho, Abu Dis,
Gush Katif, northern Gaza and northern Samaria.
    The one hugging Arafat Yamash.
The one who freed 1,300 terrorists, among them Yahya Sinwar Yamash.
Whoever gave the enemy weapons and bulletproof vehicles.
Those who did not evacuate Khan al-Ahmar.
The one who froze construction in Jerusalem.
    Will not collapse Hamas!"
[Followed by four photos of Netanyhau hugging and shaking hands with Arafat, y"sh.]

It's the full moon tonight, watch Iran over the next 24 or so hours. "Paras will go and destroy the world" - "From the trouble itself, we will be saved." Will Edom fall to Paras during the parashah whose haftarah is Ovadiah's prophecy of Edom's destruction, during the parashah where Eisav and Ya'aqov square off???

It's an opportune moment. Ceasefire may end whether they want to extend or not!

  3. To the person who wrote that certain actions can still push off the geulah and that we have to "demand" redemption, while I've let it pass a few times already, I won't publish these remarks again. Although I understand that some hold by this, I learned that we do not presume to "demand" anything from HKB"H. We might do this in a democracy, but from a King, you don't "demand." We respectfully plead our case and then trust His judgment. On the other matter of "delaying redemption," it isn't true. We are unquestionably into geulah b'ita when the geulah comes whether we are deserving of it or not. When it comes at its predetermined time, it is just like Shabbat. It comes, ready or not. And whomever is not ready, misses out!

    1. I thought we are for sure at the b’ita point? I don’t think we can possibly be achishena at this point. So many concrete sources, both kabbalastic and not teach us that we are b’ita and ready or not, the Geulah has to come any moment!

    2. ניצחוני בניי.
ד" רוצה שננצח אותו, למען הקדושה כמובן.

It's not presumptious but what Hashem is looking for, to see if anyone is doresh et hageula. The tsaaka was the key to redemption in Egypt. The constant calculations etc are already in the realm of bekochi uve'otzem yadi, people thinking that they can second guess Hashem, if only they could get the calculation right. I heard a shiur today .... Beit HaMikdash shel Maala is ready and halfway descended already, and the geula shleima very much depends on us. Hashem can bring it without us of course, but we can speed it up. The endless calculations that have been going on for years, decades even, dampen people's ratzon for the geula today.

We have just suffered the worst event since the Shoah, surely we shouldn't need anything else to make us cry out, instead of sitting back patiently.

Hashem is happy when his children 'overcome' Him, so to speak. When we are His children He is our father. And we are His children crying out in pain, not supplicants standing politely before a king.

    3. We are very much in the last, last stages of hevlei mashiach. But even in be'ita it can still come achisheina betoch habe'ita. If you want to compare be'ita to shabbat, which is coming one way or the other, you can bring shabbat in from plag hamincha or on the other hand you can be pushing it into the 18 minutes. Shabbat is coming, how and when we bring it in is largely up to us. Some people bring in shabbat an hour early, and some are getting distracted pushing it off to the last minute. So yes it is possible to push it off.

From perek 14 and perek 53, Hashem is looking to see who is demanding His presence. And what is the geula if not Hashem's malchut openly in the world. The difference between the two perakim is in the name of the yud kaiy... or elokim.

    4. I'm obviously not at your level L.L., so after someone of the stature of Rabbi Toledano reports that someone of the stature of Rabbi Abuhatzeira has said chevlei Mashaich is over and now we are on to the birth, I certainly won't dispute either of them.

As I said, there is a set time beyond which Shabbat can no longer be pushed off - when it is actualized - and the geulah is similar.

This is the second warning if you want to continue to comment here. I am not going to allow this word "demand" any longer with regard to HKB"H. "If not as sons then as servants." Demanding connotes pride, and humility - great humility - is called for right now. Even a father must be appeased by his child when he is angry at the world.

    5. For what it's worth, I wrote the following in May 2020...

...Just as HKB"H used natural forces to upend and overturn Egypt, so it will be again. And just as He waited to act until we cried out for Him from the depths, so it will be again.

When we recognize that we can no longer go on this way, that we are in deep need of rescue and we are powerless to help ourselves, dependent 100% on HKB"H and we CRY OUT to Him, then He will save us.

That is why I am writing these blog posts, trying to expose the depth of the depravity to which we have sunk. That is the point of exposing the plans and deeds of the Reshaim. So that all of us will really and truly understand the depth of meaning in the words "there is no one upon whom we can depend except our Father in Heaven."

If you close your eyes, if you refuse to look and ignore what is staring you in the face, pretend nothing has changed and try to go on with business as usual, you will be the loser. You will not possibly be able to cry out to HKB"H with enough intention.

"God heard their cry, and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob." (Shemot 2.24)

"And the Lord said, "I have surely seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their cry because of their slave drivers, for I know their pains.

"I have descended to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up from that land, to a good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivvites, and the Jebusites.

"And now, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression that the Egyptians are oppressing them.

"So now come, and I will send you to Pharaoh, and take My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt." (Shemot 3.7- 10)
We have to cry, cry, CRY to HKB"H. With the voice of Ya'aqov we must cry out from the depths of our souls, let go of everything else and cling only to Him - our only hope and our only source of deliverance. From the pain of this exile and from the torture of our enslavement and what it means for our future generations - CRY OUT!!!

Cry out from pain, pain from our own suffering, for the suffering of our brothers and sisters, the suffering of the entire creation but more than all of that, for the suffering of the Holy Shechinah.

Cry, but DO NOT "demand." We have no right- EVER - to "demand" anything from the Master of the Universe.

  4. Batya, I will try to find out if there is a recording of HaRav Be'eri saying it, but the person speaking in the video is very specific that he said the war in the south of Israel. But, even if it includes all wars, that also means the war in Israel and everybody knows that can't last. We don't have endless money, arms, or soldiers.

    1. The war in Israel can end in a couple months (maybe less), while the war in Ukraine can go on another few years..

  5. How can we verify that it is true that Rav Dovid Abuchatzeira actually said “we are now going to move into a more merciful time with big open miracles - the "birth" of Mashiach.”? If he actually said that, then we can expect Moshiach to now be revealed any day. But how can we know he actually said it? Just like someone made up something the Yanuka didn’t say.

    1. Because Rabbi Toledano put his own name to it. The other one, we really don't know who it was. It was my mistake because I did not double check that it was coming from the Yanuka's own channel. It wasn't.

That said, we just have to wait and see how it all plays out. It will become clear over time what is reliable and what is not.

    2. So you are not sure if rabbi toledano quoting rav dovid abuchatzeira is reliable? How come there is no recording of rav dovid abuchatzeira saying it? I don’t understand french, but does anyone hear know where rav toledano said he heard it from?

    3. Dear Mindy, I'm sure Rabbi Toledano is reliable, but he also has it secondhand as he tells it...

"...I bring you a testimony of Rabbi David Abuchatzeira, one of the greats of Israel, everyone knows he has ruach hakodesh... there is someone who was present this week at his home and he was a witness...." to this. So, Rabbi Toledano did not hear it personally, but he trusted his source enough to pass it along and I'm trusting his reputation enough to pass it along here. All that said, there is no nevuah yet in Israel, so everything must still be taken with a grain of salt that it may or may not go that way.

Not everything is recorded. This came out of a private conversation. I have no doubt it took place, but is there a chance the Rav could be wrong in what he said? Until it happens, I guess there is always that possibility, but I think it's right, so I shared it.
