Hoshanah Rabbah, the Aravot and the Erev Rav

This may seem premature as Hoshanah Rabbah is still a week away, but we need the mental preparation for what is coming.

I just read a comment that said, "The country is falling apart...."  And my immediate thought was, "The whole world is falling apart."  In reality the World of Lies is being slowly and methodically disassembled to make way for the World of Truth.

Excerpts from a Collection of Drashas from the Author of Bilvavi Mishkan Evneh, [Rav Itamar Schwartz], pages 104-105:

"...The aravos represent the Erev Rav souls who annex themselves onto the agudah ([lulav] bundle) that is Yisrael. ...The Shulchan Aruch states in the name of the Rokeiach that on Hoshanah Rabbah, we remove the knot binding together the Four Species.  Normally, the Four Species must be tied together, but on Hoshanah Rabbah, we remove the binding of the Four Species [which symbolizes a breach in our agudah achas – caused by the Erev Rav amidst us].

But what causes the disconnection from amongst ourselves in the first place? What causes the disparity amongst us that we need to bind ourselves together? It is due to the presence of the souls of the Erev Rav within the Jewish people. The Sages state that Erev Rav married the women of the tribe of Shimon. They mixed with us, and their mixture into our nation breaks the unity of the Jewish people.

There is the Erev Rav, and there is also a small group of Egyptian souls that converted, who are called “Erev Zeir” [whom Yosef circumcised]. The aravos of the first six days represent the Erev Zeir. The aravos of Hoshanah Rabbah represent Erev Rav; for the word “rav” is the same concept as the word “rabbah” (they both mean “many”).

There are five groupings of Erev Rav, and we take five aravos on Hoshanah Rabbah. It is because on Hoshanah Rabbah, a new mixture enters us: the Erev Rav.

Hoshanah Rabbah is called the “seal within a seal” (chotam b’toch chotam). On Rosh HaShanah, our decree is written, and on Yom Kippur, we are sealed. On Hoshanah Rabbah, we are “sealed within a seal”, similar to the halachah that wine must be sealed within a seal [or else it becomes yayin nesech, wine which is suspected of being used by a gentile for idol worship].

Why isn’t one seal enough, though? Why it is necessary for us to have to be sealed again within the seal? “The seal of Hashem is truth”. There are levels of truth – emes (truth), and emes l’amitah, a more refined level of truth. On Hoshanah Rabbah, we are within the seal [being that we were already sealed on Yom Kippur], but we are still not sealed from the Erev Rav, because the Erev Rav connects themselves to the Jewish people; they are amidst us, so it is not enough if we are merely sealed once. Erev Rav is within the bounds (techum) of the Jewish people; thus, one seal/chotam is not enough to be sealed from them. Therefore, we need another “chotam” within the chotam”. (Chotam/techum have the same letters). That is why we need Hoshanah Rabbah to save us from the influences of the five kinds of Erev Rav.

...The Erev Rav corresponds to the leaves of the hoshanos which must be banged on the ground, so that the leaves fall off. This shows that we need to ‘knock off’ the ‘leaves’ of Erev Rav from amidst us. Thus, the aravos that we take on the seventh day of Succos, so that we can bang hoshanos with them, have a special role which the aravos of the first six days aren’t able to accomplish. The aravos of Hoshanah Rabbah which are banged on the ground contains the power to separate the Erev Rav from us, who wish to latch onto us. The Erev Rav is the root of all the nations of the world, which want to connect to the Jewish people. Whereas the other nations of the world are given some degree of connection with us [such as on Succos, where korbonos are brought for all 70 nations of the world], the Erev Rav may not ever be allowed into our nation.

On Pesach, we left Egypt, and that was when the Erev Rav first came to mix with us. At Shavuos, right after we received the Torah, they mixed with us again to cause the sin of the Golden Calf. On Succos once again they come back once again to connect with us, but on Hoshanah Rabbah, we are given the power to separate them from amidst us. Thus, when the aravos are banged on the ground on Hoshanah Rabbah, we separate them from us by sending them back down to the earth.

Post Yom Kippur thoughts on current events...

By now, most of you know what happened in Tel Aviv over Yom Kippur, how the organizations which have been leading the protests against the government turned their ire toward the religion.  The media accounts do not do it justice as attested to by this personal report via Twitter(X)...

Hizki Baruch gave a chilling testimony in the Morning Edition: "People entered the prayer circle while shouting and dancing insultingly. They threw away prayer books in disgrace. A young woman arrived with two attack dogs and after a few minutes she set her dogs on the worshipers while the crowd laughed." @HezkeiB @betzalel_kahn

Nazi Germany in Eretz Yisrael!!  Can it get any worse than this??!  I really don't think so.  I think this is what is generally referred to as "the last gasp" of evil.  We are told that right before the geulah shleimah, evil will throw everything it has left in its arsenal in a final attempt to destroy us.  Our Sages compare it to the final sudden flaring up of a candle just before it is extinguished.  I truly believe this is what we are seeing right now.  And it didn't stop there in Tel Aviv.

Residents of Haifa complained that on Yom Kippur night, Arab drivers and motorcyclists went on a rampage in various parts of the city in defiance of Jews on the holiest day of the year, while endangering the lives of the children and their parents who were walking on the road and riding bicycles.

If signed, with American help, it could give the Saudis nuclear technology

Muhammad bin Salman does little to hide his relish at the prospect of a strategic pact between America, Israel and Saudi Arabia. In a rare television interview on September 20th, Saudi Arabia’s crown prince and the country’s de facto ruler acknowledged with a smile that an agreement is on the cards. “Every day we get closer. It seems it’s for the first time real, serious.” A pact would, he said, be “the biggest historical deal since the Cold War.” On September 22nd Binyamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, confirmed the trio of countries were “at the cusp” of a deal. It would, he said, be a “quantum leap”. 

Formal diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia, the richest and arguably most influential Arab state, and Israel, the Jewish state which the kingdom has long ostracised, have been a long time coming. Since becoming crown prince in 2017, MBS, as Prince Muhammad is known, has held at least one secret meeting with Mr. Netanyahu. Both countries have a shared rival in Iran and quietly do business deals. But in 2020 the Abraham accords were signed between Israel and several Arab states, without Saudi Arabia. Few expected Israel-Saudi ties to be formalised during the lifetime of the prince’s father, King Salman, who is of a generation for whom any relationship with Israel was unthinkable.              

I view this "accord" between Israel and Saudi Arabia as America's last gasp.  I think that when the truth comes out, we will find that it is the absolute most catastrophic thing they have done to us to date, which is saying a lot if you actually know the history of our "relationship."

I think we will soon see that this is the actual fulfillment of the famous Yalkut Shimoni, that the king of Arabia and the king of Edom [US] will collude together and [as a result] the King of Persia [Iran] will "destroy" the whole world.

I think Netanyahu was put in power for this.  I think he has always been operating as an agent of America to destroy Israel as a Jewish state.  His usefulness is coming to an end, hence the nine months of protests and disruptions.  It's crunch time - now or never.  They mean to establish a Palestinian State alongside Israel, very likely with East Jerusalem (including the Old City) as its capital - everything they have demanded all this time.  The US has never wavered from this as its goal.

Ehud Barak, y"sh, tried to do it in 2000, but Arafat blew it up and went to war.

There is a prophecy that the End of Days would be a "time of trouble for Ya'aqov but from it he will be saved"; meaning, according to commentary, that the "trouble" itself will be our "salvation".  And that's exactly how it turned out.  That's how it goes in redemption in its time (b'ita).  And that is what I am expecting this time - only Iran will become HKB"H's instrument of "salvation."

The Yalkut Shimoni continues:  

...Afterwards the king of Persia will destroy [most of] the world. The remaining nations will be hysterical and frantic and fall on their faces and will be seized as if by “birth pains”.  And the people of Israel will be frantic and hysterical and they will say, where will we go? Where will we go?

And Hashem will say to them: Do not fear my children, do not fear. All that I have done I did only for you. Why are you afraid? The time for your Redemption has come!

The world that Iran will destroy is the World of Lies.  As the final line above assures us, this is good news!!

It's a mitzvah to eat and drink heartily on Erev Yom Kippur.  ...all who eat and drink on the 9th, and fast on the 10th, are considered by Scripture as if they had fasted on both the 9th and the 10th.

The reason why eating on the ninth is considered so great a deed that it is equivalent to having fasted, is that by doing so, we show our joy that the time for our atonement has arrived; ...since we cannot partake of a festive meal on Yom Kippur, we do so on Erev Yom Kippur instead; ...[it] provides us with the physical strength needed on Yom Kippur to focus ourselves on prayer, supplication and reflection that will lead us to teshuvah.

...Although it is a great mitzvah to eat heartily on Erev Yom Kippur, one should be careful to eat only those foods that are easy to digest....

What is it about this time of year that brings the nations' notice upon us?

...The reading of the haftara of Gog and Magog on Shabbat Chol Ha-mo’ed Sukkot is not merely a custom, but an obligation of Talmudic law. The gemara in Megilla (31a) mentions it along with the other haftarot read on the various holidays to this very day; we thus see that Chazal already saw an essential connection between the prophecy and the festival.

...Zekharia describes the war over Jerusalem as a war conducted against Israel by nations that oppose the Jewish People's national and religious aspirations. They do not want Israel to dwell securely in their land; rather, they covet it for themselves, and they therefore come to fight against Israel with imperialistic and aggressive geo-political objectives.

...the war against Gog and Magog is also understood as a war fought for the sanctification of God's name, and the battle against the nations who have assembled together for war against Jerusalem is a battle for the sanctification of God's name. (Source)

G'mar chatimah tovah l'kol Beit Yisrael...

Unfortunately, I must bring a warning to all those coming up to Yerushalayim Ir HaKodesh for Chag HaSukkot that they are at risk of danger from invaders and intruders from the nations who seek our harm while professing love and devotion.  They lie in order to entrap Jewish souls and cause Jews to sin before their Father in Heaven.  

At what is supposed to be zeman simchateinu - the time of our joy - in our blessed homeland, the only place in the world we are supposed to be free from the harassment of the goyim, hordes of idolaters plan to perform their wicked avodah zarah right in our faces on our public streets, inciting Divine anger and judgment.  And they will do this with the blessing and support of this evil regime which rules over us and with the protection of the police and courts.  

What once was a simple holiday parade for Jews which started decades ago, over time was taken over by evangelical missionary groups until today they claim it as their own initiative and use it as a vehicle to expose innocent Jewish neshamot to their despicable avodah zarah.  From one eye-witness:

"...religious families with many children lined the parade route especially on Betzalel Street which divides Rehavia/Sha'arei Chesed and Nachlaot."

Jews have been misled into believing there is no halachic problem with this and now many frum families make parade attendance part of their family holiday tradition, r"l.  These are not righteous gentiles coming to show love and support for the Jews of Eretz Yisrael.  They are missionary predators coming as conquerors to crown a false god as "king" over us all!!  See and hear in their own words:

This concerns the Jews of Eretz Yisrael more than Diaspora Jews, I think, since it's much more of a desecration of God's Name for gentiles to practice their avodah zarah and proclaim their false man-god "King over all the Earth" on Rosh Hashanah particularly and at His Most Holy chosen place - the Temple Mount.  But it's worthwhile for all Jews to know the background and history so they don't feel embarrassed by their brethren in Eretz Yisrael and judge them harshly for offending western sensibilities.

Our Cry Can Bring Redemption

I can't believe we are only eleven days out from Rosh Hashanah 5784!  I thought we were at the end around 5762!!  And here we still are, so much worse off than any of us could have imagined back then!  Twenty-two years ago, no smart phones, no social media, no global pandemic with non-vaccine "vaccines," etc.  

I read a lot of headlines but fewer actual articles.  I just don't have the heart for it.  I saw one the other day about a hybrid pig/human embryo that had been created in a lab somewhere.  Then, as I'm scanning the news, it seems that every day now, there is yet another (or several) attacks on Jews, while our useless government stands by and does nothing.  And the country is being overrun by foreigners until it looks like we've lost Eretz Yisrael to the goyim.  America comments daily on their disgust with every move we make.  Then, I read where rich chutznik "Jews" have been sending all our top military brass to be indoctrinated in programs at Harvard and the like, that horrible Yair Golan being a case in point.

But now, the worst news of all.  In what should be zeman simchateinu - a time of pure joy - we must instead suffer the insult of an onslaught of Christian idolatry in our holy city.  Once again, Christians are going to be parading in the streets of Jerusalem, taking it over as if it belongs to them.  They are going to be here throughout the entire high holiday period "proclaiming Yeshu to be King over all the Earth."  Oh, and they will be doing this at their government-sanctioned Christian worship area at the Southern Steps to the Temple Mount!!

It all just makes you want to scream!  "Ad matai, Hashem?  Ad matai?!!"  And this is precisely what we need to be doing.  Screaming to Hashem and crying out for deliverance!  That's why it's not acceptable to put your head in the sand and not allow yourself to be aware of what is happening around you.  People feel that their peace of mind and mental health are at stake, but if you can hide within a bubble of your own making, when would you ever feel the need to cry out to Hashem?!  

And the Lord said, "I have surely seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their cry because of their slave drivers, for I know their pains. (Shemot 3.7)

When I am in distress, I call upon the Lord; yes, I cry out to my God; out of His temple He hears my voice, and my cry comes before Him in His ears. (Tehillim 18.7)

They cry out and the Lord hearkens, and He saves them from all their troubles. The Lord is near to the broken-hearted, and He saves those of crushed spirit. (Tehillim 34.18-19)

The Lord is near to all who call Him, to all who call Him with sincerity. He does the will of those who fear Him, and He hears their cry and saves them. (Tehillim 145.18-19)

And Hashem said to [the angel], "Pass through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and mark a sign on the foreheads of the men who sigh and moan for all the abominations that are done within it." (Yechezkel 9.4) [Commentary: The prophecy goes on to say that the sinners were about to be wiped out. This sign on the forehead of the righteous was to protect them from the fate of the sinners.]

Open your eyes and face the truth.  Let yourself feel the pain, and then scream to the high heavens! We can't take any more!!  But if not for our sakes, Hashem, then for Your Name's sake, PLEASE!!! redeem us now!!
