This is a major development and could be the turning point we've been expecting...

Russia said abandoning Assad as Syria regime collapses further

Russia is pulling away from its relationship with embattled Syrian President Bashar Assad and withdrawing key personnel from Damascus,....

...Hezbollah and Iranian military experts have left Assad’s war room in Damascus, along with Russian experts.

There have been increasing signs in recent days that the Assad regime is disintegrating, four years into the civil war that has engulfed Syria. Last week, the Syrian president lost control of another province, which comes on the heels of previous reports that Islamic State already controls more than 50% of the country.

...after four years of war, the regime controls less than 8% percent of the country’s oil and gas fields, while Islamic State controls more than 80% percent.

Iran weighs turning Hizballah’s anti-Israel missiles against ISIS to save Damascus and Baghdad

Hizballah’s General Secretary Hassan Nasrallah frequently brags that his 80,000 missiles can reach any point in Israel. He may have to compromise on this. His masters in Tehran are casting about urgently for ways to save the Assad regime in Damascus and halt the Islamic State’s’ inexorable advance on Baghdad and the Shiite shrine city of Karbala. According to DEBKAfile’s Gulf sources, Iran is eyeing the re-allocation of the roughly 1,000 long-range rockets in Hizballah’s store for warding off these calamities.

ISIS-Sinai threatens to bomb Eilat port “in the coming days”

The Islamist Sinai Province, known as Ansar Bait al-Maqdis before joining ISIS, threatened Saturday to strike Eilat Port, in partnership with the ISIS wing in the Gaza Strip, according to Egyptian media. Abu Othman al-Mosley, a northern Sinai Islamist leader, called for the enlistment of new members from jihadist factions and the Muslim Brotherhood in other provinces of Egypt, in order to fight Egyptian security forces and also attack Hamas’s military arm, Ezz e-din Al-Qassam, and take control of the Gaza Strip.

Israel practices national preparedness for war, mass evacuations

The IDF “Exercise Turning Point 15” was launched across Israel Sunday with the accent on the functioning of national infrastructure services including, water, power, gas and food supplies for populations affected by a multi-front and/or massive terrorist attack. Large-scale evacuations of civilians will also be tested. Taking part in the exercise lasting until June 4 will be the army, air force, navy, homeland command, the National Emergency branch of the defense ministry, other government ministries, local councils, Magen David, hospitals and the fire brigade. Sirens will alert the population to simulated attacks, excluding the communities around the Gaza Strip which get enough practice from real alerts.

  1. Dr Mordechai Kedar always has extraordinary insight when it comes to the Middle East.

    Syrian Death Throes:

  2. Golly, Devash, I'm not on the computer for just a few hours and look what crops up. This stuff used to take 30 years to come down the pike. Now, it's literally every few hours...no joke. Interestingly enough, I have been watching the situation in Damascus as you are aware of certain nevua regards this.....Things are happening at a rapid pace...

  3. Watch for the Son of the shifchah named "Gigi", Taymour Jumblatt, to make an appearance in this war when the Persians try to re-extend their reach to Hezbollah into Lebanon. As we learn from this week's parshah, the sons of Yithro have a 3300 year old mutual defense pact to honor with the people of Moshe Rabbeinu.

  4. Wow, Reb Dov. How did you find this? I'd never heard of any Jumblatt until you mentioned him. But Wikipedia says this about his father, Wahlid (which you already knew, but is news to me):
"Jumblatt was twenty when he married his first wife, who was an Iranian actress and older than him. His father did not endorse the marriage. His second spouse was Gervette "Gigi," a Jordanian woman of Circassian origin, who is the mother of his child Taymour (born 1982). His current wife is the Syrian Nora Sharabati, the daughter of the former Syrian defense minister Ahmed Al-Sharabati."
