"WE PROTEST"

21 Menachem Av 5778

[NOTE: Updates in the comment section throughout the day as needed.]

WE PROTEST

We, the undersigned Jewish bloggers, hereby protest – in the strongest terms possible – the parading and glorification of an “alternative lifestyle”, one that is classified in the Holy Torah as an abomination, especially through the streets of the holy city of Jerusalem.

The Torah demands that we live by a certain code of sexual morality, and as such, we are forbidden from certain relationships that a moral society cannot tolerate.  These include incest, adultery, bestiality, and homosexuality.  All these are considered grave sins in Judaism and incur the punishment of Karet, or excision from the Jewish people.  An act performed with witnesses during the time of the Sanhedrin would incur an even worse consequence – namely, capital punishment.

And this is only on an individual level.  When the sin is committed on a societal level, it is much worse.  The Torah and our sages record how these acts were catalysts for both the Great Flood during Noah’s lifetime and the destruction of the Five Cities of the Plain.

As such, we consider any attempt to glorify acts that the Torah vehemently forbids by parading any such lifestyle through the streets with horror and utter disdain.  Such parades in New York and San Francisco would be bad enough, but through the streets of the Holy Land of Israel is a thousand-fold worse.  The Torah specifically warns us not to act in sexually abominable ways lest we be vomited out of the land.  One can only imagine how it is viewed in Heaven when people brazenly display to G-d how abominable one can be.  And if the Land of Israel cannot tolerate such acts of utter gall, all the more so in the holy city of Jerusalem, a city that is overwhelmingly religious.

We in no way wish to minimize the struggles in temptation some may have in this area and view with positivity those who have such inclinations and bravely overcome them.  But those are not the people irreverently parading through the streets with rainbow flags, who show utter contempt for the Holy Torah and all we hold dear.

We therefore vehemently protest the “Pride” Parade in Jerusalem and everywhere else in the world where they may occur.  We hope and pray that those who take part in such parades do a complete Teshuva for their actions, and may we see a rebuilt Jerusalem, speedily in our days, Amen.

Signed,

  3. Under heavy police guard, Jerusalem readies for city’s largest-ever Pride Parade

Adding insult to injury, the article features a picture of the Great Synagogue with a Pride flag flying in front of it. The Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem asked that the flags not be placed next to the synagogues, but the Mayor has so far refused that request this year. The parade passes right in front of it.

  5. Chareidi Protest Against Toeiva Parade in the Capital Planned

Hundreds of pashkavilim were thrown on the streets of Jerusalem on Wednesday, announcing a planned protest against the Toeiva Parade, scheduled to take place in the holy city R”L on Thursday, 21 Menachem Av.

The protest is set to begin at 4:00PM, meeting at the intersection of King David and Bloomfield Streets.

Thousands of participants from Israel and around the world are expected to turn out for the parade.

While the "pro" people are already claiming this will be the largest pride parade ever in Jerusalem. That may or may not be, but I can already tell that it is the largest "anti" effort ever.

    1. I can't find a Bloomfield Street on the map, but Bloomfield Garden on King David Street is across the street from where the parade is supposed to start. If anyone knows the exact location of this intersection or a close landmark, please comment. Thanks.

  8. JERUSALEM PRIDE: ‘THERE’S SO MUCH WORK TO BE DONE HERE’

...Last week, ahead of Thursday’s Jerusalem Pride Parade, [Nadav] Schwartz and activist Irene Rabinowitz spoke on a panel at the Jerusalem Press Club about the conflicting identities of being a religious Jew and a member of the LGBT community.

Rabinowitz grew up in Provincetown, Massachusetts, and later worked in New York. She was used to being in a very gay environment – until she immigrated to Israel in 2014. Here, she experienced total culture shock. While it was much easier to be Orthodox in Jerusalem, it was much harder to be gay.

...As the development director of the Open House for Pride and Tolerance, Rabinowitz said she often saw religious youths, both Jewish and Arab, who were terrified to come out to their families, an admission that is far less traumatic in the US.

“What we learned is that people just want respect, and the young people just want to feel safe,” Rabinowitz said.

Schwartz said he is hopeful that change is coming within Orthodox communities, something he can see happening already.

A survey published earlier this month showed that 60% of Bayit Yehudi voters support the Surrogacy Law, Schwartz said at the panel.

Many Modern Orthodox Jews are supportive of LGBT rights, which is exemplified by the attendees at Jerusalem Pride Parade in recent years. Rabinowitz said she sees Jerusalem Pride as being more diverse than Tel Aviv Pride.

“Tel Aviv Pride is a party,” she said. “But Jerusalem is a little different.”

Rabinowitz said Jerusalem Pride reminds her of the civil rights marches in America in the 1960s. People still have a good time, but “it’s more of a civil rights issue,” she remarked.

As opposed to gay rights parades in other countries, in Israel, “If you’re not marching, you’re not in.... So that’s very important, because it gives people the feeling that they are the change,” Schwartz said.

He also added that the difference in name is important when comparing the Tel Aviv Pride Parade with the Jerusalem March for Pride and Tolerance.

“Those two names have a lot of meaning behind them. Here [in Jerusalem], it’s actually a demonstration,” Schwartz said.

The message, Rabinowitz and Schwartz said, is that the LGBT community in Jerusalem should be accepted as people like everyone else.

Schwartz said he feels an obligation as a gay person and as religious Jew to make the march as inclusive as possible and to “accept people because they’re different.

...“There is a very fundamental principle in Judaism saying that whatever God does, it’s for the better. Therefore, if God made me gay, and whatever he does is for the better, means that God thinks the best thing for [me] is to be gay,” he said. “The question that I have to ask myself is: ‘How do I make the world a better place with the gift that God gave me?’”

Still, many religious LGBT kids struggle, Rabinowitz said. “There’s so much work to be done around here.... We can be religious and be part of the LGBT community.”

A couple of things to take away here. One, it's clearly still Americans pushing this and two, this is the natural progression of twisted thinking when you start to believe God made people this way. Just like people are not born adulterers or attracted to animals, God help us, He did not create them homo- or pedo-!!

  10. Just a quick heads-up. While we are concentrating on what is happening under our noses, we have to keep one eye out for what is happening further away. We don't know when HKB"H will say, alright enough testing, I know all I need to know about this people and who deserves to live and who deserves to die.

  12. "A survey published earlier this month showed that 60% of Bayit Yehudi voters support the Surrogacy Law, Schwartz said at the panel."

If this is true, that party is not a home for any Jew.

"Tel Aviv Pride is a party,” she said. “But Jerusalem is a little different.”

Wrong. Eretz HAKODESH is LOT different.

"Rabinowitz said Jerusalem Pride reminds her of the civil rights marches in America in the 1960s. People still have a good time, but “it’s more of a civil rights issue,” she remarked."

WRONG. No one has segregation or jim crow laws for the toevah people. Its not about civil rights. Its about civil morality. There are clear moral boundaries for the Jewish people and the entire world.

“There is a very fundamental principle in Judaism saying that whatever God does, it’s for the better. Therefore, if God made me gay, and whatever he does is for the better, means that God thinks the best thing for [me] is to be gay,” he said. “The question that I have to ask myself is: ‘How do I make the world a better place with the gift that God gave me?’”

Hashem gives people certain traits to overcome. Toevah can be one of those traits in certain people. The Torah clearly states that it is toevah. Why this person thinks it is a gift is simply bizarre.

  15. Important information for those eligible to vote in Jerusalem's upcoming mayoral election...

3 of 7 Jerusalem mayoral candidates plan on attending pride parade

...MK Rachel Azaria, Ofer Berkovitch and Yosi Havilio all said they would be marching to show their support for the LGBTQ community. MK Ze’ev Elkin and Deputy Mayor Moshe Lion both said they would not be participating but did not condemn the event.

The ultra-Orthodox candidate, Deputy Mayor Yossi Deitsch of the United Torah Judaism faction, offered no comment when asked by the Walla news site if he would attend.

...Avi Salman, who is running on a secular ticket, not only said he would not attend but called for the parade to be canceled. He told Army Radio that he has very good relations with the LGBTQ community and was not opposed to a parade in Tel Aviv and other places in the country, but felt it was inappropriate for the capital. He claimed to be in possession of a survey finding that 90 percent of Jerusalem residents, not including the ultra-Orthodox community, were opposed to holding the pride parade in the city.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, who is not running for reelection, has never attended the parade during his time leading the city, saying he did not want to offend the capital’s ultra-Orthodox population.

I have tremendous respect for all those protesting that which goes against H' Yisborach's Holy Torah. I, too protest.
There is something else to seriously, seriously consider here - NOW. This second. No time to wait - Let us use this opportunity to not only protest yet to unite - to truly feel H' Yisborach's Pain and to REALLY feel each other's pain; to truly be B'Achdus! Let us beg and plea for the AlMighty to bring the Geula Shleima now...
Let it be seen in Shomayim, in Heaven that we ALL want to live happy, healthy and wholesome lives in compliance with the Torah HaKedosha!
TRUE wholesomeness , at its essence means that we can't bear to see the pain of the other. (Pirkei Avos 6:6)
There was a big Tzaddik who recently said that Moshiach is ready to come - when one will care about his/her friend the way they care about themselves...
Let us connect to that in actuality, on the level expected of us - and then hopefully, the Geula Shleima will come immediately!
Please, please my brother's and sisters let's do this!

  19. By now, we've all done everything we could possibly do about this issue.

Despite all the empty rhetoric about respecting the democratic rights of all parties to have their say, every effort was made to ensure that those who opposed the Pride Parade would be denied those rights. 2500 police, in uniform and out, were patrolling the streets looking to stop anybody who looked like they were not part of the festivities. They very much try to detain anyone simply on their way to the pre-approved gathering site for the counter-protest and hold them until it is too late and the protest has ended.

In addition, as if by mutual consent, the counter-protests received no coverage by the media; as if by ignoring it, their voices can be silenced, like they were never there and had nothing to say.

Of the three counter-protests that we know were taking place, only the TOI reported the following: "Not everyone was happy with the march. A small counter-protest led by Orthodox rabbis at Liberty Bell Park demanded a “normal country.” Besides an announcement that the Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem intended to join Liba's protest, nothing else was heard about it.

It reminds me of that old saying, "If a tree falls in the forest and there is no one there to hear it, did it make a noise?" And the answer, is, of course, yes. And not just because HKB"H is everywhere and He knows about it, but all of creation is alive and listening and taking note.

Despite possibly feeling like no real impact was made because we could not stop the parade in its tracks, know that a tremendous impact was made in the world that hears the tree fall when no one else is in the forest. And all of us know!

    Good job, everyone!

    1. Finally found this from Srugim...

      Thousands march and hundreds protest

...hundreds of demonstrators protesting against the parade in the capital.

...Rabbi Levinstein said during the demonstration: "He strengthens all the brave people who have come here to the reality that anyone who teaches and talks about the family unit is pure and holy and becomes an object and a mockery." During a demonstration by Jewish power activists and the organization Lahava, police brutality was unleashed, and one of the officers burst into the protest and beat Ben Gvir, who was lightly hurt and damaged his glasses. The rightists were furious at the police's conduct.

    2. Barry Chamish זצ"ל in his books brings overwhelming proofs that Ben Gvir is a known Shabak agent - provocateur. So the presence of this dubious personality in the demonstration is a very bad sign indeed, meaning that all these efforts were doomed from the very beginning.

Where were all the yeshiva students and their Rabbis ?!
Why were they not protesting and trying to pervent the desecretion of the Holy Name ?!
If 100000 people or more would have gathered to protest, no media could have silenced it and no police in the world could prevent it !
This patetic protest today was FAR from enough to silence the DIVINE ANGER which can bring a collective punishment on all of us, including the most righteous of Rabbis !
And it seems that this DIVINE RESPONSE may have indeed come and came very quickly - On the same day as this despeakable abomination parade was happening, also happened the following developement:
" Iran launches major naval exercise in Persian Gulf " !!!!!!!
      http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/249955
And this developement seems to have a tremendous potential for launching the THIRD WORLD WAR - the GOG AND MAGOG !!!
Unfortunately when started, this war will not selectively damage the abomination community only and all their supporters, but may be a punishment for all of us including the righteous.
      Hashem Yishmor !

  20. LAWSUIT FILED: Makor Rishon Newspaper Refused to Advertise Toeiva Parade
The Makor Rishon newspaper refused to place ads from members of the dati leumi community supporting the toeiva community and parade, “HaChadashot” News reported. The newspaper explained that accepting the ad would be conditional to signing an agreement in advance agreeing to compensate the newspaper for damages, meaning to say if subscriptions are lost as a result of the ad. Hence, the refusal was not about ideology, but simply about money.
According to the conditions set forth, persons placing the ad would have to compensate for each subscriber who left the newspaper, in the amount of NIS 960 and VAT per subscriber. The ad was not submitted, because of the “unfair conditions” and the newspaper is now facing a lawsuit for discriminating against the toeiva community.

The announcement was signed by dozens of religious Zionist graduates who protested against the rabbis’ letter against the members of the toeiva community: “We, who grew up on values and love for your neighbor as yourself and a loved one who was created in the Image, today feel the contempt, the exclusion and the irresponsible aggression – the responsibility of many rabbis of the leadership of the religious public, against us and against our brothers and sisters.”
The signatories said: “We wish to deepen and expand the dialogue between us and the world in which we were raised and educated and offer an inviting hand to all those whose teachings are “ways of pleasantness and all paths of peace.” (דרכיה דרכי נועם וכל נתיבותיה שלום)
“Makor Rishon has already published ads from LGBT organizations. It did not object to the publication in this case either, but in consultation with legal advisors, it made this conditional on receiving a document of indemnification for possible damages that would be caused to the paper as a result of the publication.
