A 4:50 AM Wake-Up Call

Minor earthquakes rattle northern Israel

A minor earthquake rattled the Haifa region and northern Israel early Wednesday morning, followed by several smaller tremors, authorities said.
The temblor registered a 4.1 on the Richter scale and was centered four kilometers deep in the northern Sea of Galilee, the Israeli Geophysical Institute said.
It struck at around 4:50 a.m., according to the institute.
This occurred on the first day that Parashat Pinchas comes into effect - the parashah whose haftarah says...

"From the north shall disaster break loose upon all the inhabitants of the land!"

But, always keep in mind that if HKB"H bothers to send a warning, that means He thinks there is still hope for our teshuvah. Let's not waste the opportunity or disappoint Him.

  1. The Geophysical Institute reported that two additional 3.2-magnitude earthquakes were felt in northern Israel on Wednesday night, after an earlier 4.5-magnitude earthquake.

According to the statement, the epicenter of the two tremors was ten kilometers northeast of Tiberias, and they took placed around midnight and 1:00 a.m.

  2. If you look at Israel's Geophysical Institute website of recent quakes (http://seis.gii.co.il/heb/earthquake/lastEarthquakes.php) you will see that there have been 17 earthquakes so far in the last 36 hours, all of them with epicenters in the northern Kinneret.

  4. Any word on scheduling for the toeva parade in Yerushalayim? I'm wondering about the earthquake connection. Rav Glazerson had a Torah codes table connecting earthquakes to homosexuality.

  5. Just got back from givatayim. They have huge billboards inviting the town to a "family event" - a pride (gay) festival on shabbat. Looks like am yisrael is not quite doing tshuva.

  7. Hard to believe that these abominations are going on in EY. Never thought that even the 'medina' could sink that low. Of course, warnings of earthquakes, etc. are all connected to the communal sins of the nation. Even worse, these things are lauded and praised, r'l. Praying for the nation to do teshuva and H's rachamim.

  8. Motzaei Shabbat update: "A 3.4 earthquake was felt in the north of the country at about 5:10am on Saturday. According to the Geophysical Institute of Israel, the earthquake's epicenter was in the northern Kinneret, as the series of earthquakes felt on Wednesday and Thursday." (Ynet)

  9. From this week's Haftarah: (Jeremiah 1:13)

" Then the word of Hashem was upon me a second time, saying, 'What do you see?'

And I said, 'A boiling pot do I see; and its bubbling is from the northern side.' "

The epicenters are all in the Kinneret, on the northern side. A boiling pot?
