Rosh Chodesh Bet
Day 16 of the Omer
Our sources tell us that the Erev Rav crave honor. The current holder of the office of president in Israel is a prime example of this as he goes around the world collecting honors and prizes and awards. I'm not surprised that they would dream up yet another award program, called the Genesis Prize, but I am amazed at who the first recipient will be.
The website says it "seeks to recognize individuals who have attained excellence and international renown in their chosen professional fields, and whose actions, in addition to their achievements, embody the character of the Jewish people through commitment to Jewish values, the Jewish community and/or to the State of Israel." The one million dollar prize will be awarded to former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg in May 2014. That's mere chump change for the man whose Forbes' website says is worth 32 billion dollars.
The fact that the Prime Minister of Israel and Jay Leno will be together on the stage shows just how "Jewish" the values are which will be celebrated at this award ceremony. They know so little of Judaism that they don't even understand that accepting accolades is very UN-Jewish.
Love this latest post. Was laughing at the sheer stupidity of this kind of an award and that they would choose the former mayor of NY, who was disliked by New Yorkers and who thinks he's king. Guess it fits for the Erev Rav.
ReplyDeletePeres, Honor? Yep. Erev Rav, not to mention forsaking the Land, and attempting to bring together Esau and Yishma'el.
