Those who think the Zionist State of Israel embodies the fulfillment of our redemption need look no further than the party slates for the upcoming election to see that this idea is erroneous.
If you look honestly at the historical record, it is easier to track the trajectory. The Jews have been steadily losing ground to the Israelis over time - both literally and figuratively. Think about it! From Pride Parades only in Tel Aviv to parades in every city in Israel. From no public transportation on Shabbat to regular desecration of Shabbat by public transportation.
Now, we have come to the most glaring example of all. For the first time in its history, an Arab party is including an Israeli "Jew" and a Jewish right-wing party is including an Israeli Chr*stian Arab. The early Zionist leaders must be rolling over in their graves.
We have to stand our ground now and begin clawing back what we've already lost because there is no such thing as a "status quo". Either we are advancing toward geulah or we are sliding back into the abyss of exile. No middle ground! The enemy does not allow it and neither does HKB"H!!
I've been seeing a big push for hatzibur-haharedi. I don't agree with combining Torah studies with additional outside curriculums. The Torah studies should remain The Most Important. What are your thoughts on this?
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. My first impression was that offering this sort of 'middle ground' was just another attempt to get a wedge in the door.
Delete1) Where's the money coming from for all their advertising? It's in the millions of shekels at least.
Delete2) They call themselves chareidi without once defining the term.
3) They promise their voters the moon and have no way of delivering.
4) For most people, whether secular or religious, mathematics (as opposed to arithmetic, which all schools teach regardless of Liba), is useless in real life. Ditto most of the other content of Liba.
If jews only learn Torah and no other curriculae then we will always have to hire non jews to do everything for us including building the beit hamikdash and growing our food. That was never Hashem's intent as we can very well see from the MANY examples in the Torah of mitzvoth related to and infact obligating us to do these and all manner of other things in addition to learning Torah. We also of course have to LEARN hiw to do these things before we can actually do them...

Of course, you are right. I wasn't thinking about learning subjects which are necessary to learning skills. I had in mind the particular curriculum being pushed on the chareidi schools by the government. It's called LIBA. Most of the subjects are fine if taught without an agenda, but the agenda becomes clear when they outline what comes along with learning history: "History, geography, and civics (democratic values, human rights, and state institutions)." That's what I was thinking about when I answered as I did, but you are right, of course.
