THE HOPE
Stone Edition Chumash: Commentary on Lech Lecha...
This Sidrah begins a new birth of mankind: the story of Abraham and his descendants. The first two thousand years from Creation were the Era of Desolation. Adam had fallen, Abel had been murdered, idolatry had been introduced to the world, ten dismal generations had been washed away by the Deluge, and the ten generations from Noah had failed [see Avos 5:2].
Abraham was born in the year 1948 from Creation. In the year 2000 - four years after the Dispersion and six years before the death of Noah - he started to influence disciples to serve Hashem. With the emergence of Abraham, the Era of Desolation had come to an end and the Era of Torah had begun (Avodah Zarah 9a).
With Abraham there began a profound change in the spiritual nature of mankind. The plan of Creation was for all human beings to have an equal share in fulfilling the Divine mission and for the Torah to be given to all mankind. But after twenty generations of failure, the privilege of being God's Chosen People was earned by Abraham and his offspring. They would receive the Torah and they would be in the vanguard of perfecting the world and bringing all people to accept the sovereignty of the One God [See Avos, ibid.; Derech Hashem].

THE REALITY
American troops in fatigues move between shawarma stands and gym shoe stores — a new presence in the southern industrial city and part of a multinational civil-military coordination center set up to monitor the Gaza ceasefire. The center, housed in a converted logistics building about 15 miles from the Gaza border, opened last week with roughly 200 American personnel as well as smaller contingents from at least eight other countries.By the weekend, the sight of Americans in uniform had become routine. “Big guys, all in perfect formation,” one shopkeeper at the BIG mall told the Walla news site, “like they came out of a Hollywood movie.”Cafes, restaurants, and food delivery services have been “working around the clock” to accommodate the city’s new foreign guests. On social media, commenters called the deployment “a new world order,” noting that Kiryat Gat was trending for the first time in years.......Channel 12’s current-affairs program, host Avri Gilad asked...if there had been “any new love interests,” echoing online chatter about whether romances might bloom between US soldiers and local women,....The BIG shopping complex where the American soldiers have been spotted is in Carmei Gat, a neighborhood whose rapid growth prompted one mainstream Israeli newspaper to dub Kiryat Gat as the new capital of the Negev, overtaking Beersheba as the region’s commercial hub. A new housing agreement set to be signed later this week in the presence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will add 21,000 apartments in Carmei Gat, doubling Kiryat Gat’s size* and making it one of the 10 largest cities in Israel. The neighborhood is also home to evacuees from Nir Oz, the Gaza envelope kibbutz that was relocated there after being attacked on October 7. One convenience store owner, Shai Avisror, himself displaced from Kibbutz Zikim, said anyone arriving in uniform gets a free coffee or cold drink.“Soldiers are the holy of holies,” he told one reporter, though it’s unclear if the same rule applies to the Americans....Much of the commentary reflected a broader unease over who is now directing events in Gaza. One user warned that “the Americans are only the beginning,” predicting “an airlift of Turkish and Indonesian soldiers soon and God knows who else they’ve sold us to.” Referring to Netanyahu as “Trump’s prime minister,”.... ...The appointee, venture capitalist Michael Eisenberg, was expected to represent Netanyahu at the CMCC, which oversees implementation of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip. Eisenberg, a leading figure in Israel’s tech and investment sectors, helped initiate the Gaza Humanitarian Fund (GHF) and is known for his ties across the region, including with U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner.Netanyahu personally approved the appointment earlier this month. But during a visit to the CMCC on Wednesday, the prime minister appeared without Eisenberg. Sources familiar with the matter told Israeli media that “Eisenberg has been cut off from work with the Prime Minister’s Office,” adding that the move stems from political tensions.A respected figure in right-wing circles, Eisenberg has also advocated for integrating ultra-Orthodox Jews into Israel’s workforce and for drafting yeshiva students — positions that have drawn attention amid the ongoing coalition crisis over the military draft exemption law.“Right now, the appointment is effectively frozen, and they’re waiting for an official decision from Netanyahu,” one source said. ...Those whose hope is in Hashem will renew their strength, they will grow wings like eagles; they will run and not grow tired, they shall walk and not grow weary. But you, Israel, My servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham who loved Me, Whom I grasped from the ends of the earth, I have summoned you from its leaders, and I have said to you, "You are My servant"; I have chosen you and did not despise you.Do not fear for I am with you; be not discouraged for I am your God: I have strengthened you, even helped you, even supported you with My righteous right hand.Behold all who are angry with you shall be shamed and humiliated; those who quarreled with you shall be like nothing and shall perish. You shall seek them but not find them, the men who struggle with you; those who war with you shall be like utter nothingness. For I, Hashem your God, grasp your right hand; the One Who says to you, "Fear not, for I help you."
Fear not, O worm-weak Jacob, o people of Israel; for I shall be your help - the words of - and your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. (Haftarah Lech Lecha)
