STALEMATE! But For How Long?

22 Iyyar 5785
37 Days of the Omer

[Apologies to the readers.  This post has been updated with final corrections @9:00 pm on May 21st.  There was some confusion from the beginning about which source I was trying to quote and I'm sorry to say that when I corrected it, I made it even worse because I cited the wrong passage.  It is fixed now, if you'd like to re-read it.  Scroll down to the red text.  I think you'll find it makes much better sense now.]

Shafaq News/ Prominent Iranian conservative politician and former judiciary official Javad Larijani dismissed the likelihood of a war between Iran and the United States, warning that any such conflict would be prolonged and without a clear victor.

Speaking to Iranian media, Larijani said, “A military confrontation remains a remote possibility, as Washington knows it would not emerge as the winner in such a war.”

His remarks come amid renewed tensions over Iran’s nuclear program. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reaffirmed Tehran’s position on uranium enrichment, stating that the country will continue its nuclear activities despite mounting US pressure.

“No matter how often they repeat their statements, our stance will not change,” Araghchi said. “We are continuing enrichment. It is our clear and legitimate right.”

The statement was issued in response to comments made by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who declared that halting uranium enrichment in Iran is a "red line" for the United States and not subject to negotiation in ongoing nuclear talks.

“US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Secretary of State Marco Rubio had conveyed this position directly to both Iranian officials and the American public,” Leavitt said.
How and when is yet to be determined, but the conflict itself is undeniable.  The rabbis of the Talmud never questioned whether there would be this face-off between Rome/Edom (the West) and Persia (Iran), only which one would prevail...
(Yoma 10a) ...In the future there will be a tremendous war between Persia and Rome.  According to Jewish tradition, Rome is called Edom, which today is associated with Europe and America.

At first, the Talmud says Persia will win this war.  Why?  Because it was Persia that gave permission for the Jews to build the Second Temple in Jerusalem, while it was Rome that destroyed it.  It says surely the merit of building the Temple will allow Persia to be victorious over those who destroyed it.  But then, a second opinion is given.  Rav says, "No, I've been told that Persia will lose this war.  The Talmud asks, how could the destroyers of the Temple win against the builders?  Rav answers that it doesn't have to make sense.  This is a decision that God has made.  [See further.]

U.S. Intelligence Suggests Israel Is Preparing To Strike Iran Amid Trump’s Failing Nuclear Talks

  1. Khamenei has been making threats against Israel publicly for about the last 48 hrs. It's coming - one way or another.

It has been suggested to me by a close family member that since the 1967 war ended with a UN-mediated ceasefire, and the Temple Mount is an extension of Jerusalem, maybe this war will take up where the last one left off - Yom Yerushalayim - Iyyar 28 (next Monday).

  3. Trump brags about how great / lethal the US military is but they lost two fighter jets and 5 reaper drones and spent a Billion+ against the Houthis. As I understand there have been No attacks on ships since Trump took office. So when he says they came begging to stop and agreed to a ceasefire was it really about ships. The US has been supplying a variety of arms to Ukraine and none have proven as effective as promised. In one video Ukraine fired three Javelins at close range against a Russian tank and it kept going. So much for "Javelins instead of sheets". I wouldn't be too confident that the US would prevail over Iran.

  4. There has always been the two interpretation on who will prevail.
Hopefully, The West will prevail against any nuclear nation, especially
a nation of such evil to be the victor, c'v, We pray that nothing comes of this and maybe it will be Israel who will strike against the nuclear facilities destroying the nuclear power completely of our enemy.
We have to take into account, the U.S. is still a freedom loving nation
that has the greatest number of Jews outside of Israel. We put our
Emunah and Bitachon totally in HKB'H! May His Great Rachamim for His children prevail and that will bring us our Redemption where the
righteous of the world will also benefit.
Think good and it will be good!

  5. Is this Trump 2. 0 or rather 'Biden 2.0'.

New intelligence obtained by the United States suggests that Israel is preparing to strike Iranian nuclear facilities, CNN reports, citing multiple US officials familiar with the matter.

  6. The quote "Rabbi Yitzchak said..." is not from Yoma 10a - it's from the Pesikta Rabbati and quoted - with minor variations - in the Yalkut Shimoni Yeshaya 499. I see that you mentioned Yoma 10a a couple paragraphs later - also confusing matters. It does give various opinions of who will fall to whom (Edom or Paras) - not that Paras will destroy the world, which is again in the Pesikta and the Yalkut - not the gemara.

    1. Thank you for catching that. You'd think I'd remember considering how many times I've quoted it on this blog. I've made the required corrections. Much appreciated.
