I saw Ben's post on facebook referring to the Pope as "His Holiness." I wanted to vomit. Then, I just felt so helpless to do anything about it, or about any other "religious" Jew who is that clueless. I don't know why he visited the Pope. Publicity? There is a way demonstrate deference to non-Jews in the exile, which we may, and in the past even had to do for our own safety, without going overboard. (sigh)
Esser Agaroth is absolutely right. A real frumme yid does not go to visit a pope and let alone, to call him his holiness. The orthodoxy of today is surely not the orthodoxy of yesteryear. All you can say, he's a tipesh. sechel
A common thread amongst such Jews is that they tend to be highly intelligent and have personal charisma, and by the way they speak and write, they think they know better than the gedolim and the klal. A regular frum Jew wouldn't go against gedolim, the opposite, and even regular Jews who are not frum, in Israel at least. They also get the kavod they think they deserve from xns that they don't get from Jews.
The catholic church is an abomination to both Jews and non Jews. It's literally a criminal organisation.
Would someone please tell Rav Reuven not to call it the new testament, with all its implications. Personally, I call it their book.
Did he really? (sigh) I wouldn't expect him to call it their "mythological texts." But seriously? This is a pretty standard understanding that we do not give it any legitimacy. So "their texts" or something like that would just be stating a fact.
I'm sure he just said it as that is what it is commonly called, but using the words nt, and ot, sums up their whole theology. My take is that if you control the language you control the discourse and the outcome, language shapes people's minds. This is rife everywhere you turn once you start taking notice of it. Politics, religion, economics.....

He thinks Jews need to be good citizens of America and that Jews need to be a part of the American melting pot while still preserving their values and religion ect. I wish that he was a singularity but unfortunately this is a pervasive trend in the orthodox and religious circles of American Jews..." We can be good Jews and good citizens of the state and respect other religions, yada yada" Same old tired trope Jews have parroted in every nation we lived in that treated us halfway decent. Until they inevitably turn on is and come after us. It's sad really more then anything else. In every generation we forget. In the holocaust Jews were led to their deaths protesting all the way that they were Germans. Its a sort of blindness, a refusal to accept that we are completely different and that we are not safe anywhere but at home in Eretz Yisroel. It doesn't mean they aren't frum Yidden, it just means they missed the point of being Jews, and being a nation seperate and apart and are trapped in the gashmius of Mitzraim and can't let go. CSF
A story from the Shoah is that in the camps, the nazis said any Jew who was a decorated WW1 veteran should step forward. The implications are obvious. They thought they would get special treatment. They were the first to be shot.
Shapiro was a fraud from the very start. He was propped up at WorldNetDaily, where his father was a backer. He got more promotion than their top authors at the time (Pat Buchanan and Ann Coulter) even though his readership was a fraction of theirs, billed as a 17 year old boy genius (no joke).
He lives in the Boca Raton Community, it is a modern orthodox community. They are shomer shabbat and kashrut and mitzvot...but its more that the kehilla trys to be open and patriotic and American, ect. and they have Xian speakers come to their shul along with politicians as well as other speakers. I think they live their lives like religious Jews but unfortunately do not see the deeply insidious effects of interacting with Xians and allowing them to invade Jewish spaces. They think they are being open minded and building bridges and that in some sad twisted way they are sharing the light of Yiddishkeit with the Goyim. They don't realize , (or are willfully blind)to the fact that the Xians they are welcoming into Jewish spaces are predatory and that they are the prey. It's sad really and scary for their children because it only takes one generation to go OTD. It's a toxic side affect of trying to be an American instead of realising you are a Jew always and will never be like the rest. CSF
