Keep Your Kids Close
25 Tammuz 5784
In the last 12 hours, Israel has assassinated Hezbollah's "top military commander" Fuad Shukr in Beirut and the US is reportedly responsible for the assassination of PMF financial manager Qassem Daif al-Zubaidy in Iraq. No one has as yet taken responsibility for a third assassination, that of Hamas "political chief" Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. And yes, there was collateral damage, too. It all came after the conclusion of the inauguration ceremony for the new Iranian president.
This may finally be the beginning of the end. The only reason we did not see any reaction yet is because it's going to be awesome. In my view, we are standing in the same place we were on Oct. 6, except this time, we all have the warning in advance.
Please review my previous blog post Heads Up All! And keep your kids close to home.
May Hashem bless His children with peace.

Rav Richter on Netanyahu's Speech
24 Tammuz 5784
Rabbi Meir Kahane, ztz"l, Hy"d...
While he was in prison, Joseph failed in his trust in G-d when he asked the chief steward to save him. As our sages said (Shemot Rabbah 7:1), “Joseph really only deserved ten years in prison...yet because he asked the chief steward, 'Remember that I was with you...Say something about me to Pharaoh' (Gen. 40:14), two years were added.”A Jew who seeks help from a non-Jew out of despair and fear, lest G-d not help him, commits a grave sin. Had Joseph approached the steward with a demand because the steward owed him a favor, that would not have been considered a sin. Yet by petitioning him with a request, indicating that we need a favor from a non-Jew, he profaned G-d's name, showing that he did not trust in G-d but only in flesh and blood. From here we derive a major principle regarding aid from a non-Jew: If the non-Jew gives it as part of mutual aid, or payment for what he owes the Jew, that is allowed. If, however, we approach a non-Jew or a country with a request, like a pauper standing at the door, there is no more severe Chilul HaShem and lack of trust in G-d than this. It is an unatonable sin for a Jew to despair. It constitutes national denial of G-d for Israel to turn to human strength, to non-Jewish allies, and to lean on them while scorning G-d's ability to help.On the national level, this means : [...] whoever relies on the non-Jew and his aid, and fears that without such aid the Jews and their land will be unable to survive, has been caught by lack of complete trust in G-d, bordering on denial of His existence. The individual Jew and the Jewish people as a whole will not be forgiven if they abandon their faith in G-d, the Supreme, Omnipotent King Who rules over the world and over the nations. He alone is our salvation. Even totally righteous, G-d fearing people fall prey to the terrible sin of lack of trust in G-d. As our sages said (Sotah 48b), “What is meant by 'Who has despised [baz] the day of small things?' (Zechariah 4:10)? What causes the future heavenly reward of the righteous to be squandered [yitbazbez]? Their smallness in not believing in G-d.” Had our sages not said this, we would not dare to put this thought to words.

General Ignorance About Non-Jews in EY
24 Tammuz 5784
There are reams of authentic Torah and halachic writings which all agree that gentiles have no inherent right to live in the Land of Israel, but may be allowed to under special circumstances. We have a very serious problem with being overrun by all kinds of unsuitable gentiles in our land today and it is complicated by the fact that Jews who are ignorant of the Torah and halachah on the subject are defending it and enabling it.
Then there are those who bow in worship to the IDF who have fully bought into the Zionist lie that any gentile who serves in the military has the absolute right to the Land of Israel irrespective of what Torah and halachah demand.
A blog post is no place for an in-depth discussion, so I'll be as succinct as possible because it apparently needs repeating from time to time for those who still haven't got it. Even the Times of Israel knows these facts. Listen to the words of the Zionist State of Israel's own Chief Rabbi:
Chief rabbi: Non-Jews shouldn’t be allowed to live in Israel Israel’s Sephardic Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef said that non-Jews should not live in the Land of Israel if they do not abide by a set of seven laws mandated by Judaism.“According to Jewish law, gentiles should not live in the Land of Israel,” Yosef said Saturday in a sermon. “If a gentile does not agree to take on the seven Noahide Laws, we should send him to Saudi Arabia. When the true and complete redemption arrives, that is what we will do.”The only reason non-Jews were still allowed to live in the Jewish state was the fact that the Messiah had yet to arrive, he said. “If our hand were firm, if we had the power to rule, that’s what we should do. But the thing is, our hand is not firm, and we are waiting for the Messiah,” he added.
Israeli Druze rally against new nation-state law TEL AVIV (Reuters) - Tens of thousands of people gathered in Tel Aviv on Saturday to protest against Israel's new law declaring it the nation-state of the Jewish people, which has provoked outrage among the country's most integrated minority, the Druze.Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has defended the law, which says only Jews have the right of self-determination in the country and downgrades Arabic from an official language, from fierce criticism at home and abroad. But his right-wing government has been blindsided by the backlash from Israel's Druze community which has voiced a deep sense of betrayal over a mostly declarative law that many felt cast them as second-class citizens. The Druze are ethnic Arab members of a religious minority that is an offshoot of Islam incorporating elements of other faiths. Their biggest communities are in Lebanon and Syria. In Israel they number around 120,000 -- less than two percent of citizens....Yat Salamy, 53, a Druze teacher, said the law undermined Israel's character as a cosmopolitan country. "What makes Israel special is its unique social fabric - Jews, Arabs, Druze, Muslims, Christians, Bedouin, Circassians - together we are all Israel," she said.

Something is going down, we just don't know exactly what yet, but the longer the delay the more ominous it appears. At some point HKB"H will suspend the free will of our so-called leaders and take matters entirely into His own hands. We have clearly reached a point where we either surrender or go big and pray for success. Will this be that moment?
All of the delays up until now were ostensibly to give us the very best fighting chance when D-Day (Do-or-Die Day) would arrive. I think the speech and the meetings in Washington point toward a strong possibility that we may finally see the direct confrontation with Iran.
As of May 11, 2024: "Iran’s nuclear program has reached the point at which, within three weeks, Iran might be able to enrich enough uranium for five fission weapons." (Source)
If Iran is the source of all terrorism, then cutting off the head of the snake is the only real solution.
TEHRAN, July 27 (Xinhua) -- A senior Iranian lawmaker said over 300 foreign guests would attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iran's President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian, which is scheduled for Tuesday. Alireza Salimi, spokesman of the Iranian parliament's presiding board, made the remarks in an interview with the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) published on Saturday. He said the ceremony, which would be held at 16:00 local time (1230 GMT) in the capital Tehran on Tuesday, would be attended by high-ranking Iranian officials and more than 80 visiting foreign delegations, including China, the European Union, Brazil, Russia, Turkmenistan, Iraq and Pakistan. The Rumor Mill Is In Full Operation
23 Tammuz 5784
Swinging back to home court from the European spectacle, the rumor mill regarding Israel's retaliation for Hezbollah's attack on Majdal Shams is operating at full capacity. Can't even keep up with social media and nobody has any idea what to believe. The adrenaline is pumped up, as it always is when you don't know what to prepare for. You have to be ready for literally anything. There have been so many false starts, it keeps us on an emotional roller-coaster and that's part of this modern warfare.
Public opinion appears to be evenly divided between those who think this is escalating to the all-out war everyone has been expecting for months and those who have heard the cry of 'wolf' too many times to take it seriously, even now.
As usual, only time will tell. We will definitely know something solid within the next hours. Further speculation beyond that is useless and non-productive.
If I get concrete information, I'll (b'ezrat Hashem) post it here as an addition. Feel free to keep checking in. And remember, "Man plans and God laughs." Ayn od milvado!

The Demise of Zionism
22 Tammuz 5784
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL):
Zionism is the movement for the self-determination and statehood for the Jewish people in their ancestral homeland, the land of Israel....What is known as modern Zionism emerged in the mid-19th century in tandem with the rise of the nation-state and widespread national liberation movements across Europe. In the case of the Jews, it was also in response to a long history of intense anti-Jewish hatred, persecution, and discrimination in countries and societies across the world where Jews lived, including in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. Its advocates believed that a modern Jewish state would provide Jews with a safe haven from the bigotry and endangerment they suffered perennially as a minority culture among non-Jewish majority cultures, and ensure that Jews have the same right to nationhood and self-determination as any other people, along with the same protections that are typically afforded to other nations. Zionism was also a cultural and national renaissance movement which sought to enable the Jewish people to revive their language, Hebrew, and reestablish self-determination over their traditions, culture, religion and education.

I should have known that there would be no attack on the Olympics Opening Ceremony despite the choiceness and richness of such a target. I keep forgetting this is not real terror but a Theater of the Absurd NWO. Therefore, I should have known so many of the Elites were never going to be put at risk - royalty, heads of state, etc. However, it's only just begun, so there will be plenty other opportunities to make mayhem.
Meanwhile, we've got a major escalation on our northern border tonight. These are the highlights:
📌 HEZBOLLAH ROCKET ATTACK kills 10+ children, ages 10-20, critically and seriously injured: 34+ mostly children, in Majdal Shams - north Golan Druze city. [They were all playing soccer.]
‼HEZBOLLAH fired a drone (unknown if suicide or info gathering) at the Harish GAS RIG in the Med. IDF Navy intercepted.
🔹PM may start his return from the US, on Shabbat (US time), due to situation. The Wing of Zion national plane can act as a mobile command center.🔹We’ve seen various reports on type of attack. Initially thought suicide drone. Then Fajir heavy rocket. Another report says Grad 122 - which is a smaller rocket but videos which caught the event seem to show a larger explosion.🔹( Unconfirmed ) The head of the Druze community: "I give a 4-hour ultimatum to the state to respond or we remove responsibility and take control of the event!" (( Reminder: during the Syrian civil war when Druze towns were under attack in Syria, the Israeli Druze marched across the border to defend. ))

Parashat Pinchas
Excerpted from "Parashat Pinchas: Peace Through Vengeance" by Rabbi Meir Kahane as compiled by Tzipora Liron-Pinner.
...Since G-d leaves it to good men to further the cause of goodness, after Pinchas took G-d's revenge against Zimri ben Salu and Kozbi bat Tzur, Moses appointed Pinchas leader when he sent G-d's hosts to take His revenge against the Midianites (Num. 31:6):
“Moses sent forth the thousand men from each tribe as an army, along with Pinchas son of Elazar the Kohen.”
Who won the “covenant of peace”, the everlasting reward of peace, if not Pinchas? Pinchas acted zealously on G-d's behalf, taking G-d's revenge, and becoming the first “mashuach milchama”, or Kohen anointed to lead the nation in war (Deut. 20:2-4).Yet G-d said (Num. 25:12), “Tell him that I have given him My covenant of peace”. Here we have a reward well-suited to the deed. Precisely he who gives up his peace and tranquility, devoting himself to G-d's battle and to taking G-d's revenge, merits everlasting peace. And precisely he who rebels against G-d, treating His command to fight and root out evil and evildoers with contempt, will never have peace, for there is no peace for the wicked, those who cast off their yoke.Today, people have risen up to destroy us who are smitten with the alien [Western secular] culture. Tragically, these include even Torah scholars and learned Jews who have pronounced that, halachically speaking, there is no state of war between us and the Arabs in our land, hence we are forbidden to treat them as enemies. They have gone so far as to rule that if an Arab tries to attack or even to kill a Jew with a stone or weapon and flees, one may not kill him, but may only catch him and deliver him to the authorities, our impoverished regime which is better off ceasing to exist. If someone renders a halachic ruling that there is no state of war between us and the Arabs in our midst, that we are obligated to treat them with mercy, and that it is forbidden to kill one of them even after he tries to attack and kill a Jew, that person is nothing but a “rodef” [one who attacks with the intent to kill], who collaborates with the gentiles in the killing of Jews.[As Rav Binyamin Ze'ev Kahane puts it in his commentary on Parashat Pinchas]: Pinchas' act of killing Zimri and afterwards meriting the peace covenant teaches us that the Torah's way of bringing peace is by making the world a better place. The first step towards this goal is the uprooting of evil and evil-doers from the world. “Depart from evil” (Ps. 34:15) – this is the first step in making the world a better place. On the other hand, making peace with evil, or even worse, giving in to it, is the very opposite step that one can take if he wants to arrive at peace. Peace is not the mixing of good and evil and the attempt to create a co-existence between them, as we have been trained to think! The very opposite. There is no co-existence between good and evil, nor is there partnership between good people and evil people! The Master of the Universe demands of the righteous that they burn out the evil from the world - “and you shall burn out the evil from thy midst”, the Torah commands us in so many places, for only in such a way will peace reign in the world.

Since we have now entered the period of the Three Weeks between 17 Tammuz and 9 Av, the regular haftarah of Pinchas is replaced with the one from Parashat Mattot -- the first of the "three haftarot of affliction."

1.5 Billion Pairs of Eyes on Paris
19 Tammuz 5784
Opening Ceremonies of the 2024 Summer Olympics begin Friday, 26 July 2024: "The Ultimate Celebration of Human Achievement." Just the kind of idolatrous pride that inspires Islamic terrorists as well as HKB"H's judgment.
It's going to be open-air viewing along the River Seine with space for 300,000 invited guests, the general public not included. The publicity is focused on it being "an opening ceremony like no other." That could turn out to be an unwitting prophecy if things go wrong.
Interestingly, there is only an hour difference in time between Jerusalem and Paris, but because they are so far north of us, their candle-lighting is at 9:19 pm (10:19 in Israel) while we bring in Shabbat at 7 pm (6 pm in Paris). Therefore, it would seem that the Western Jews (Europe and North/South America) will be able to observe the ceremonies when they begin at 7:30 pm Paris time. The Jews of Eretz Yisrael will already be an hour and a half into Shabbat, so we will be oblivious to whatever might occur there until Shabbat goes out.

Some thoughts...
Here is my prediction for the November 2024 US presidential election, if an election even takes place. Trump is going to lose. He already served his purpose as president in the four years he was allotted (2016-2020). [However, that's not to say that he is not serving other purposes in his present capacity.]
With Biden's election in 2020, the world moved into a period of judgment (ב-דין) and now we are coming to the period of destruction with Harris (הרס). The suddenness of the shift shows that it doesn't want to wait.
An observation...
We really can't trust any English-speaking rabbis on the internet, except Rabbi David Bar Hayim and Rabbi Yehudah Richter, both of whom I know and have learned from personally for the past 25 years.

It will mark the completion of our repentance and atonement for the sins for which it was established as a fast day. "When Edom's Power Is Broken"
Erev Shabbat Kodesh
Parashat Balak
From the Commentary on the Stone Edition Chumash...
Balaam, prophet of the nations. God, in His wisdom, ordained that the gentile nations should have a prophet, who would be comparable to Moses - though much inferior to him - so that they would not be able to contend that if only they had had someone who could communicate to them the will of God, they would have been as righteous as Israel. Balaam was that prophet. This Sidrah revolves around his ability to curse and his attempts, commissioned by King Balak of Moab, to curse the advancing nation of Israel. The Sages teach that there is an instant every day when God is "angry" (Avodah Zarah 4a; Berachos 7a), meaning that He judges sinners at that time. Clearly, someone who is guilty of transgressions is most vulnerable at that instant, and it was Balaam's "talent" to know when that moment was at hand. A curse at that time could subject its victim to such Divine judgment. Balak hired Balaam to curse Israel, but God thwarted his plan by not sitting in judgment on that day (ibid.). This Sidrah tells of Balaam's repeated futile attempts, and God's insistence that he bless Israel. So significant were these blessings that the Sages even considered making them part of the daily Shema prayers. God wanted these sublime blessings to come to Israel through the agency of the wicked and immoral Balaam, so that all the world would know that everyone is helpless to harm Israel against God's will (Shelah).
In Balaam's famous reference to the kochav miYa'aqov, we tend to focus on this reference to the revelation of Mashiach, but the two succeeding verses predict something equally astounding: "Edom shall be a conquest and Seir shall be the conquest of his enemies - and Israel will attain success. One from Ya'aqov shall rule and destroy the remnant of the city."
Again, from the same Commentary...
Seir and Edom - the two names of Esau's descendants - will fall to his enemy, Israel, and become its possession. Verse 19 [of chapter 24] concludes this aspect of the prophecy by saying that Israel will dominate Edom and destroy its most prominent city (Rashi). This describes the End of Days, because the current dispersion is called the Edomite Exile, during which Israel is considered to be under the dominion of Edom. This will end when Edom's power is broken (Ramban).

The 2,000-Year Dynasty
12 Tammuz 5784
Younger people likely won't know this. The Baby-Boomers barely remember. We were little kids when the controversy over JFK's chances for election was raging over whether a Catholic could become president of the United States. It's such a non-issue today. Which only goes to show the progress that has been made over time. The generational memory of the danger of the power associated with the Catholic Church has waned to nothing. The worry was where the Catholic's loyalty rested - with his country or his Pope.
"...John F. Kennedy was the first Catholic president and Joe Biden, the incumbent president, is the second." (Wiki)
The word "dynasty" could be considered a bit of a misnomer in the title as by definition it refers to a succession of ruling family members. But then the word "Pope" comes from "Papa" and he is commonly referred to as the "Holy Father" and he addresses the Catholic public as "my children," his priests as "my son", so maybe not so far off after all.
I don't think of any of us can even begin to imagine the extent of power and wealth that an uninterrupted succession of leaders can accumulate to themselves over the course of 2,000 years when, unlike a sovereign nation, they have no expenditure of funds toward defense or provision for public needs, nor answerable to any electorate or army.
Vatican City is a landlocked sovereign country, city-state, microstate, and enclave within Rome, Italy. It became independent from Italy in 1929 with the Lateran Treaty, and it is a distinct territory under "full ownership, exclusive dominion, and sovereign authority and jurisdiction" of the Holy See, itself a sovereign entity under international law, which maintains the city-state's temporal power and governance, diplomatic, and spiritual independence. The Vatican is also a metonym for the pope, the city-state's and worldwide Catholic Church government Holy See, and Roman Curia.
With an area of 49 hectares (121 acres) and as of 2023 a population of about 764, it is the smallest state in the world both by area and by population. It is also the second-least populated capital in the world. As governed by the Holy See, Vatican City State is an ecclesiastical or sacerdotal-monarchical state ruled by the Pope, who is the bishop of Rome and head of the Catholic Church. The highest state functionaries are all Catholic clergy of various origins. After the Avignon Papacy (1309–1377) the popes have mainly resided at the Apostolic Palace within what is now Vatican City, although at times residing instead in the Quirinal Palace in Rome or elsewhere.
The Holy See dates back to early Christianity and is the principal episcopal see of the Catholic Church, which has approximately 1.329 billion baptised Catholics in the world as of 2018 in the Latin Church and 23 Eastern Catholic Churches. (Wiki)
The Catholic Church was responsible for the blood libels, the Crusades, the Inquisition, and the Nazi rat-lines. By virtue of it's 2,000-year uninterrupted reign, it is today the power at the top of the NWO/Globalist pyramid. At that level it has nothing to do with the traditional Christianity of the masses, if it ever did.
They are as dangerous as they've always been. No, more so! And, if anything, the threat they pose to the world is even more well hidden than it has ever been, even though every world leader, without exception, pays homage to the Pope.
Francis and Netanyahu met for 25 minutes for closed-door talks, according to the news agency AFP. The Israeli leader gave the Argentinean-born pope a Spanish translation of his father Benzion Netanyahu's book "The Origins of the Inquisition in Fifteenth Century Spain". The dedication was made out to "Pope Francis, a great shepherd of our common heritage".
Not everyone is aware that there are two Popes known as the White Pope and the Black Pope. Francis is the first Jesuit ever to have been chosen to be the White Pope, but the Black Pope is always exclusively from the Jesuit Order.
"Black Pope: A History of the Jesuits" by M.F. Cusack is a comprehensive account of the Society of Jesus, also known as the Jesuits, from its founding by Ignatius of Loyola in the 16th century to the present day. The book delves into the Jesuits' mission to spread Catholicism throughout the world, their role in the Counter-Reformation, their involvement in political intrigue and power struggles, and their impact on education and scholarship. The title "Black Pope" refers to the nickname given to the Jesuit Superior General, who is often seen as the most powerful figure in the Catholic Church after the Pope himself.
[In fact, he is more powerful than the White Pope who is the public face the world sees while the Black Pope moves in the shadows behind the scenes.]
Cusack explores the controversial nature of the Jesuits and their influence on both Catholicism and world events, from their involvement in the colonization of the Americas to their suppression by Pope Clement XIV in the 18th century. The book also covers the Jesuits' contributions to science, art, and literature, as well as their role in the Second Vatican Council and their modern-day efforts in social justice and interfaith dialogue. Overall, "Black Pope" provides a fascinating and detailed history of one of the most influential and controversial religious orders in the world.
From notables like Shimon Peres to Anthony Fauci, a lot of famous and highly influential people have been educated by the Jesuits. Even Donald Trump!! [See also here and here.]
With over 16,000 members in its religious community around the world and 28 colleges and universities and dozens of high schools and primary schools in the United States, the Jesuits make up the largest male religious order in the Catholic Church and have left a significant imprint on American education.
The 118th Congress got off to a wobbly start in 2023 with historic mayhem snarling the election of the speaker of the House through 15 ballots. Despite the drama, it remains a point of pride for Jesuit colleges and universities that for the fifth consecutive session, Jesuit-educated members account for about 10 percent of Congress. Among the current 534 members (and six non-voting delegates) of the 118th Congress, 54 graduated from Jesuit colleges and universities. There are 14 Jesuit alumni in the Senate and 40 in the House of Representatives; 15 of the nation’s Jesuit colleges and universities are currently represented by alumni in the 118th U.S. Congress. (Source)
Trump's VP pick, JD Vance, recently converted to Catholicism. His son, Don, Jr., who has been very prominent alongside his father recently, is engaged to marry a Catholic woman - Kimberly Guilfoyle. [Will they be the new Jared and Ivanka?]
Also, a Catholic priest was tapped to say the opening prayer at the very rally where Trump was almost assassinated. In fact, the priest mentioned that possibility only minutes before it happened!!

Theodore Herzl spoke of the need to reclaim the physical Jew. At the Second Zionist Congress in 1898, Herzl’s chief lieutenant, Max Nordau, called for the need to develop what he termed “muscular Judaism”. Nordau contributed greatly to the idea of the New Jew, a total transformation of the frightened Jew of the ghetto. The essence of the New Jew was physical training through sport, gymnastics and clubs. In the last years of the nineteenth century and the opening years of the twentieth, a number of Jewish sporting clubs began to develop, especially in central Europe. They had names that echoed great heroic moments and characters from Jewish history such as Maccabi, Bar Kochba, Shimshon (Samson) or names that evoked power and heroism - HaKoach (Strength), Gibbor (Brave) and Gevurah (Heroism). THE MACCABIAH GAMES – BY ANY OTHER NAME
Could anything be more oxymoronic than Greek-style games for Jews held in a sports stadium in Jerusalem and named after the very warriors who fought a similar Hellenistic assimilationist trend to their very deaths? No doubt, when it was first conceived, all that the person must have thought about was the physical might and strength exemplified by Judah Maccabee, the Jewish Hammer, as portrayed in the story of Hanukkah. What could he have known about that ancient clash of civilizations – the Greeks vs. the Jews?
Perhaps, he had never even heard how the Hellenizers, in their all-consuming desire to make the whole world Greek, forbid the observance of Jewish law in Eretz Yisrael. How Jewish attendance at and participation in the games were the clearest sign of loyalty a Jew could offer to this conquering power. How the stadium would replace the synagogue as the communal meeting place. How this assimilationist movement posed an existential threat to the unique identity of the Jewish people.
Surely, none of those things was on the mind of the 15-year-old Russian-Jewish émigré to Eretz Yisrael who originated the idea of a “Jewish Olympics” called Maccabiah. After ten years of planning, he approached the Jewish National Fund (JNF). The project eventually gained the support of the British High Commissioner of Palestine, with the caveat that the non-Jews of Palestine be included as well. Approval received, news of the Maccabiah Games to be conducted in Eretz Yisrael was carried to the worldwide Jewish community who reportedly received it with great favor. It was spring of the year 1932 and Hitler, y”sh, was running as a candidate in Germany’s presidential election.
Sporting is viewed by Torah Jews as incompatible with traditional Jewish values in part because of the spirit of pride and competition it engenders and the immodesty associated with it. However, what is perhaps more central to the problem with sport is its emphasis on physicality over spirituality, but not necessarily to the exclusion of spirituality.
In ancient cultures, like Greece, sport was an integral part of the worship of pagan deities. While no one invokes the gods and goddesses of Olympus at the modern games, one can still hear echoes of it up to the current day. In his speech at this year’s opening ceremony Israeli president Reuven Rivlin told the assembled crowd that the games were intended “to elevate – not just physically, but also spiritually.” It is meant to “create a new reality … [in] the same spirit from which came Zionism.” That is to say, a spirituality divorced from the source of the Jewish people’s real strength and power and only reason for being – the Torah itself.
Today, the Maccabiah Games is an established and unquestioned every-four-years fact of life in the Jewish State. But, maybe it’s time to rethink it or at the very least to rename it! Unlike the early initiators of the games, today in Eretz Yisrael, Jews are better informed about their history and their heritage. How can it be that we can continue to tolerate the association of the righteous Maccabees with the very concepts that they abhorred and gave their lives to eradicate? Furthermore, can any of us claim that we are less vulnerable today to the assimilation that even ancient Greece saw as the method by which they would succeed in making the Jewish people into good Hellenists, thereby eliminating us as a separate and distinct nation?
The Maccabiah Games by any other name would remain another point of entry for the injection of foreign culture into Eretz Yisrael, but by changing the name we would be taking a step in the right direction. Such a move would at least cause Jews to become consciously aware of the incompatibility between sporting events and the values and ideals that the Maccabees themselves held dearer than their own lives.

Preserve Jewish Women's Rights
4 Tammuz 5784
This is the third of four articles written in 2017 which I am republishing this week.
PRESERVE WOMEN’S RIGHTS AT THE KOTEL
There are loud and angry voices calling for the abolition of gender separation at the Western Wall of the Temple Mount. At a time when the whole world appears to be weighing in on the subject, it seemed appropriate to evaluate my stance on this issue.
Perhaps it is due to the ethos I absorbed at my all-women college that I have a great appreciation for the unique advantages provided by women-only designated areas. Important and reliable studies have proven time and again that women thrive and flourish in an environment where they are not forced to compete with men.
When men and women are thrown together, the woman by virtue of her feminine physique is at a notable disadvantage. Men, as a rule, are bigger and stronger and there is just no getting around that fact of nature. In a space as limited and crowded as the Western Wall prayer area, how many women would ever get close enough to the stones to touch them? How many male bodies would she be crushed against if she tried to push her way forward? Perish the thought! No woman with any real desire to come closer to HKB”H through prayer would tolerate such a scenario.
This was the very same thought process behind the building of the balconies in the Ezrat Nashim of the Temple Complex. Like the women’s area at the Western Wall today, it was meant not to exclude women, but to guarantee their inclusion! The modesty of Jewish women will not allow them to compete with the men for a limited physical space. Therefore, space was set aside and designated “for women only” in order to guarantee their access and inclusion.
Now, in the interests of the politics of division which come masquerading as an attempt to unify and assert “rights,” Jewish women who choose to pray at the Kotel are in danger of losing their right to a space which absolutely guarantees their exclusive access to this holy place.
Like many things, it is often in how you look at it. A fence can be seen as a means to restrict movement or as a protection from outside intrusion. The same can be said of a mechitzah.
I expect that some Jewish women who feel restricted by the gender separation carry it over from childhood when their understanding was limited. A child chafes at any restriction of movement, while an adult with adult understanding has a greater appreciation for the concepts which inspire the rules of behavior. Or perhaps they never had any experience of women-only separation outside the religious context.
When I became an observant Jewess, I did not bring any pre-conceived bias with me in this regard. Instead, as aforementioned, I came with the experience of having attended an all-women college which valued and cherished the concept of a gender-specific learning environment which catered to women’s unique needs. So, it was no great leap to apply that same ideal to my religious life.
Men and women are different. That is a fact of life. Their needs are different and their ways of relating are different. And vive la différence!
Honestly, you would think that the liberal streams, with their feminist bent, would be in favor of the current arrangement. And no doubt, if they were motivated purely by their ideals, they would have to see the value of it. If anything, they should be lobbying for a bigger share of the pie, so to speak – an enlargement of the area now designated for women. Since the building of the unsightly ramp to the Mughrabi Gate to the Temple Mount, the size of the women’s section has decreased and it was already smaller than the men’s section.
It occurs to me, however, that this challenge to the status quo has nothing whatever to do with “rights” or “unity.” Something which causes such divisiveness and which actually denies women their rights to be separate is not about building anything of value. It is about pure destruction; an outgrowth of hatred, a hatred without any cause whatsoever - sinat chinam!
As we enter the period of the Three Weeks leading to Tishah b’Av, our thoughts naturally turn to this reputed cause of the Temple’s ultimate destruction. And just as “naturally” there will be those who will accuse the Jews who think like me to be the purveyors of sinat chinam because we refuse to give way to bullies on the attack; to step meekly aside and let them steal away our rights. It is the typical way of bullies to blame their victims; to claim some moral high ground. Well, enough!
The modesty of the Jewish women who cherish the privacy and protection the mechitzah affords does not compel them to stand by silently while their rights are bargained away for political expediency.

"If the Shoe Fits..."
3 Tammuz 5784
This is the second of four articles written in 2017 and which I am republishing this week.
Great Satan, Little Satan – If The Shoe Fits
The Al-Quds Day celebration in Iran held on the final Friday of Ramadan eerily echoed the early days of the Islamic Revolution with its chants of “Death to America! Death to Israel!”
In a speech given at the outbreak of the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini referred to the United States as the “Great Satan” and to Israel as the “Little Satan.” This was no doubt partly in response to decades of interference by the Western powers in Iran’s internal affairs.
Perhaps the most egregious example of this took place in the early 1950s when the United States and Great Britain conspired to overthrow the Iranian Premier Mohammad Mossadeq. He was hugely popular with the Iranian people as he sought to nationalize the country’s industries, most notably the oil industry. Outside forces instigated a coup and overthrew Mossadeq. (In 1953, the American CIA admitted to its role in the matter.)
The Shah, who replaced him, was widely viewed by Iranians as a puppet of the West and not representative of the Iranian people or their interests. Increasing public dissatisfaction led to violent demonstrations and riots which in turn drove the Shah to flee Iran. He found refuge in the United States and the door was opened to the return of the formerly exiled Khomeini, a further tragedy for those Iranians who had no desire to live under an oppressive Islamic regime.
The world has witnessed this scenario being replayed all over the globe. The West calls it democracy-building, while its enemies call it imperialism. Consequently, the United States was generally despised and Israel, in its eagerness to embrace Western democracy and culture, was viewed as a direct threat to the Islamic world.
Part and parcel with this “democracy” came humanistic values with names like tolerance, pluralism, diversity and the “rights” of the individual, no matter how dangerous they may be to society as a whole. Countries which do not welcome a division of religion and state view such values as an existential danger to their chosen way of life. They view the symbols of Western culture as indicative of all that they find wrong with it, things like Coca Cola, McDonald’s, movies and MTV. All the things that give America the well-deserved Hebrew appellation “Am-reika” – an empty nation promoting empty calories, empty values, and empty morals, superficiality with little real substance.
“Satanic” is the descriptor the Ayatollah chooses to use. But, even if one would not go that far, one must still ask himself, looking from this perspective, whether Israel deserves the label “Little Satan” or Little America? Is Israel, as the Middle East’s only democracy, a conduit for the spread of liberal Western norms and values into the more conservative Arab world?
In the name of “democracy” the Holy Land now hosts Gay Pride Parades attended by hundreds of thousands including tens of thousands of foreigners. This is a Western “norm,” but it is by no means a “norm” for the Middle East. In the name of “democracy” Christian missionaries are running rampant across the country preying on the youth, lone soldiers, Holocaust survivors - the most vulnerable elements of our society.
Is the Arab world justified when it implies by the moniker “Little Satan” that Israel is a local source of unwanted Western influence? Israel needs to seriously consider the possibility, for our own good.
Just look at how several US Congressmen and the Trump Administration came out with statements either condemning or questioning our government’s decision on the matter of prayer arrangements at the Western Wall. “Egalitarianism” is another Western value that Israel is bidden to adopt and enforce. God forbid!
Israeli society is meant to exhibit the perfect balance between the oppression of Islam and the liberalism of the West. But, before that can happen, Israel must understand that it cannot be a “light to the nations” by hoisting Lady Liberty’s torch as a small US outpost in the Middle East. It can only be accomplished when Israel understands and embraces her mission and her destiny to be a “light to the nations” by upholding the Torah in all its details. The world needs Israel to show both sides how it should be done.
Even if the shoe fits, that doesn’t mean we have to continue wearing it!
