One of the happiest days of my life when I cut all ties to "wicked Rome".
Interesting how they consider it a "loss". Their loss was my gain.

"Renouncing American citizenship used to be free, and not much talked about, until 2010 – the year when the new regulation known as the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) was signed into law. That year the fee for renouncing was set at $450. In 2014, this was hiked by 422 percent, to $2,350."
I have a dream of doing this for my family and myself, I just can't afford the huge fees. I did read somewhere that it is going back down to $450.

ReplyDeleteKol hakavod Devorah!
I have to say, amazing foresight on your part. You were way ahead of the trend by years.
I also severed all ties and have zero regrets. I also do not consider it a loss of anything, on the contrary, I consider it an immeasurable blessing from Hashem to have the opportunity to reside in EY.
On my first trip to EY, A sofer stam in Old City told me that nobody sets foot in the land without an invitation from Hashem. If they are here, there is a reason or purpose known only to The Holy One Blessed Be He! I'm still not sure I understand fully the depth of his words.

Thank you.
DeleteOh my! I never knew that it cost money. What is their perported reasoning for this??
ReplyDeleteSGK
I don't think they ever offered any reason.

ReplyDeleteA little off topic, but according to friends in edom who are voting today, they are predicting that "the lesser of two evils" will win the election in a landslide. 😂☑😉

"אחרית כראשית"
ReplyDeleteAs it is stated in the Sefardic rendition of Kedusha for Shabbat Musaf...."I will redeem you at the end of days in a similar manner to how I redeemed you the very first time (Mitzrayim).
"ויקם מלך חדש"
The Medrash Tanchuma relates exactly what happened after Yoseph HaTzadik died and Pharoah "turned" on the Jews.
Pharoah, known to be Ramsees רעמסס , was one of the best foreign leaders for the Jews. He gave us a huge portion of land and did not tax us. After Yoseph died, the people, very resentful of the Jews/Israelite, demanded that Pharoah turn against us. He refused. He felt very indebted to us. His advisors rebelled and "threw him out of office".
After some time, he came back begging. He promised he will no longer be good to the Jews.
And thus.."And a new king arose".
This Medrashic explanation, easily reconcile the debate on the meaning of "New King". He was both a new king and an old king turned bad.
I have no idea how Hashem will redeem us. I just know he will.
Having stated that, I think Trump fits the above Medrashic narrative.
However, I would like to echo the owner of this blog....Jews! Do not put your faith in anyone other than Hashem.
Not Trump. Not Kamala. Not Netanyahu.
ONLY HASHEM...בכבודו ובעצמו
Oh, one last gematria.
רעמסס = 430
דונלד טרומפ 429
See my earlier post on the meaning of being "one off" in Gematria.
Thank you.
DeleteLet's daven that the predictors are right! I also want to renounce my US citizenship. It means nothing to me. Anyway, I was a naturalized citizen. But I can't afford the fee. It's crazy to charge that amount.
ReplyDeleteIt works to plug the drain.
DeleteI thought too about it. But I think I deserve my SS, even though it won't be there by then no doubt.

Hmm... How did I not know this? You beat me to it by years!
ReplyDeleteThey recently lowered the free back to $450 AFAIK.
Fun fact: I was still receiving sample ballots from Los Angeles County as a registered voter. Go figure.
Here is the link to the first in the five-part series on my renunciation process for those interested in following suit.
I heard that Paro did 'not know Yosef' because a new king arose and
ReplyDeletethat king was of a different people, some say he was from Amaleik.
He conquered ancient Egypt and became king and he enslaved the Jews. This new Paro was from the 'Hiksos' (?) people.
Am not sure if these are the facts.
