Sunday Is Going To Be A Busy Day

September 21st (28 Elul) is a date with a lot going on...

A partial solar eclipse will occur on Sunday, September 21, 2025, visible primarily from the remote Southern Hemisphere, including parts of Antarctica, Australia, and the South Pacific. During this event, the Moon will obscure a portion of the Sun, creating a "bite" or crescent shape from the perspective of a viewer. It will be the final solar eclipse of the year and will coincide with the September equinox.

Globally, September's partial solar eclipse will begin at 1:29 p.m. EDT (1729 GMT), with the maximum eclipse phase — when the moon covers the largest portion of the sun — occurring at 3:41 p.m. EDT (1941 GMT).

Another event of global interest to take place on Sunday is the funeral for slain American influencer Charlie Kirk.  (As described here.)

Interestingly, September 21st marks precisely nine months into US President Trump's second administration.  (Jan 1, 2025 to Sep 21, 2025)

Plus it's Erev Erev Rosh Hashanah 5786!

  1. The program for CK is meant to begin at 11 am and the eclipse begins at 10:30 am. The "largest portion" of the sun will be covered at 12:41 pm. No, the eclipse is not visible to most of the world but the whole world is aware it is happening. What are the chances that it would coincide with the memorial event?
