Obama authorizes secret US support for Syrian rebels
President Barack Obama has signed a so-called "intelligence finding" authorizing covert aid to the Syrian rebels seeking to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government, NBC News has confirmed.
White House and intelligence officials declined to comment on a Reuters report about the aid.
...Obama's order, approved earlier this year, broadly permits the CIA and other U.S. agencies to provide support that could help the rebels oust Assad, Reuters reported.
As if the whole world didn't already know that all the chaos in the Middle East has been fomented by the United States.
So, where are we holding on Syria? All the news is reporting "War with Iran" in "weeks" and for sure, they want to settle the issue of Bashar Assad before tackling Iran. They want to unseat Assad from power, secure the WMDs and block any supply corridor from Iran to Lebanon and the Hezballah and all supposedly in the next few weeks. Will Iran (as well as Russia and China) wait and let that happen? Will Israel wait to see if Iran will wait for that to happen?
Here is the run down on the latest...
'If I were Iranian, I'd be fearful of the next 12 weeks'
Former Mossad chief Efraim Halevy added to speculation of an impending Israeli military strike against Iran's nuclear program in a statement published by The New York Times Wednesday.
"If I were an Iranian, I would be very fearful of the next 12 weeks," Halevy said.
Ahmadinejad calls for annihilation of Israel
In a speech published on his website Thursday, Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the ultimate goal of world forces must be the annihilation of Israel.
Speaking to ambassadors from Islamic countries ahead of 'Qods Day' ('Jerusalem Day'), an annual Iranian anti-Zionist event established in 1979 by Ayatollah Khomeini and which falls this year on August 17, Ahmadinejad said that a "horrible Zionist current" had been managing world affairs for "about 400 years."
...“Qods Day is not merely a strategic solution for the Palestinian problem, as it is to be viewed as a key for solving the world problems," he said.
'Dire and rapidly deteriorating'
The White House is rushing more aid to Syria as it increases pressure on Assad to step aside.
