The "Attachment" to Edom (Eisav)

16 Menachem Av 5781

The following blog post is self-explanatory and requires no commentary from me.

..."the kingdom of Edom" refers to the last of the four empires of the world foreseen by Daniel (chapters 4-5): Babylonia, Media, Greece, and Rome. Rome, as world power, is long since dead and gone. But its heritage, Western Civilization, rules the world. Our Rabbis indicate that the kingdom of the Messiah will grow up in the context of Western civilization. Indeed, the parable of "the heel of Esav" signifies that the spiritual failure and moral bankruptcy of that civilization will be the catalyst for the coming of the Messiah.

...[The] Maharal - properly understood - has described how the kingdom of the Messiah emerges from the breakdown of Western civilization.
But this is not all. Maharal's vision is guided by veiled hints in the Midrash: the "Kingdom of Israel" itself undergoes development. In its immature stage it forms part of the Fourth Empire, and only when it reaches maturity does it throw off this attachment and emerge as "the holy kingdom of the Messiah". (Source)

MK Matan Kahana,
Minister of Religious Svcs

What do gov’t’s opening shots on religious issues mean for the future?

...Kahana and his Yamina Party set out in their coalition agreement with Yesh Atid initiatives specifically to reform religious life in the Jewish state, in line with the moderate brand of religious-Zionist Judaism he extols.

These include decentralizing the kashrut supervision market, decentralizing conversion and changing the electoral body for selecting chief rabbis.

The idea is not to separate religion and state as secularists would like, but to give greater choice and freedom to Israeli citizens regarding religious life.

Religious Affairs Minister Matan Kahana has decided not to allow the establishment of religious councils in Israel unless they have an "appropriate" representation of women in the council, according to Walla! News.

Any corporation of three city rabbis is free to set its own kosher standard, which they claim is according to halacha. For example, they may opt to certify the kashrut of a business that’s open on Shabbat. Rabbis will be able to decide to give kosher status to a business that is open on Shabbat.

Shas chairman Aryeh Deri said Kahana’s plan is “crushing the Jewish identity of the state.”

The Chief Rabbinate Council on Tuesday issued a sharp attack against the Minister of Religious Affairs’ kashrut reform. In an unusually harsh statement, the Rabbinical Council said:

“The Chief Rabbinate of Israel rejects outright the dangerous initiative of the Ministry of Religious Affairs to destroy kashrut in Israel. The ‘plan’ presented today for changes in the kashrut system means the abolition of kashrut in the State of Israel, opening a bazaar of entities with business interests that will grant kosher status, and providing an opportunity for every macher (functionary) to grant kosher status with a singular result: the destruction and ruin of the kashrut.

“This is part of a general trend of a war on religious services whose ultimate goal is the abolition of the Jewish identity of the State of Israel.

The Judicial Appointments Committee is expected to appoint six Dayanim to the regional beis din and three dayanim to the Grand Beis Din.

...Religious Affairs Minister Matan Kahana (Yamina), intends to push a bill this coming Sunday, appointing women to positions filling half of the committee. This move will give him full control via a majority in the Judicial Appointments Committee so that he will not have to reach out to the chareidi factions to join in an agreement for appointing the new Dayanim.

Meet "Pastor" Steve Berger - "Good Friend" of Israeli MK Matan Kahana, Minister of Religious Services

MK Matan Kahana w/"Pastor Steve" at the Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast event at the Knesset - June 2021

...Maharal continues: So long as the kingdom of the Messiah has not yet reached perfection, the kingdom of the Messiah is attached to Edom (nigar el Edom) ...The holy kingdom of Israel... must grow out of the non-holy kingdom that preceded it.
...there are two processes advancing simultaneously. There is our effort down here to advance the messianic goals, and there is the action of Divine Providence - in the guise of human political decisions - to weaken the husk... until suddenly, the "end" will be reached, the husk will fall off, the revolution will arrive and the Messiah will be revealed. 2. Am sure this is how 'their' secret deal is panning out. These pseudo Jews are literally pseudo! This has been the plan for a long time; as soon as the xtian world of Rome became 'friends', that was it. This is so sick that it's hard for me to listen to the words of these erev rav so-called religious Jews and harder even to listen to goyish'e clergy. The idea of Jews dialoguing with 'religions' leaders is unthinkable as this is considered prohibited Halacha wise & mesorah wise. Here comes along unlearned pseudo scholars and have the audacity to say they will make a new Judaism. This should make every G-D fearing Jew feel sick to their stomach. There will most likely eventually be a revolution of real Jews fighting against the mock Jews. What an era -'interesting times'! H' Yerachem. TORAH DOES NOT CHANGE!

  3. Kahana: “Lieberman Almost Fainted From Excitement About Kashrus Reforms”

In an interview with Haaretz last week, Religious Affairs Minister Matan Kahana said that when he informed Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman about the kashrus reforms he intends on implementing: “he almost fainted from excitement.”

As could be expected from the left-wing Haaretz, Kahana received much praise for his plan to implement far-reaching changes in Israel’s religious status quo.

Kahana said that “during the coalition negotiations I was the person Bennett appointed to oversee issues of religion and state. When Lieberman and Bennett requested to include reforming the kashrus system in the coalition agreements, I said to myself: ‘Friends, you have no idea how far I intend to go [in reforming the system].'”

Kahana explained why he thinks he is fit for the position of religious affairs minister. “I served in the most chiloni (secular) frameworks possible, in the Sayeret [Sayeret Matkal, an elite IDF special forces unit] and the Air Force,” he said. “There’s no one more appropriate than me to serve as a bridge between the secular and religious.”

  4. Yet again, "right-wingers" are depending on Arabs to save us, in this case, bring down the government, and into new elections.

This is very frustrating. The problem isn't the Arabs; it's the Erev Rav (which comes in all shapes and sizes, with and without kippot), and its educational system and courts.

The minute someone criticizes the government, the "religious" Statists cry "baseless hatred." Even though it is not baseless, nor is it hatred. And they not so secretly want what every other group in Israel wants, to convince everyone else to believe what they believe.

The Arabs are just doing what they are supposed to do, in order to achieve their goals. Unfortunately, they are getting plenty of help from us.

  5. With so many Erev Rav within our midst, maybe that's why H' made that we had to go through the suffering with the Arabs. They seem to be the ones that usually and, even now in such a situation, save us from ourselves. Esser is right, our worst enemy (like our Chazal tell us) are the Erev Rav.

  6. The Rabbinute was founded by the dati leumi community.
Charedim don't eat Rabbinute kashrut so these "reforms" don't affect the charedim community. Same with giyur. The chief Rabbis are the head of the srugi community.
The fact that the state supremacist srugim rebel against their own kashrut, giyur and Rabbonim says something: The national is overiding the religious.
Looks like a biyur going on.

  7. The source essay by Rabbi Arye Carnell was extremely nice. Too bad it had to occur in the same post as the material on Matan Kahana. (no relation to Rav Meir, HY"D--B"H)
