We're Not Ready For Superintelligence

  1. Except that the Ribbono Shel Olam controls this world. If the technology is there, Hashem has a plan to use it for the good of mankind. Maybe this is the way we will have the time and peace of mind to focus exclusively on learning Torah and davening to Hashem.

  2. AI's use of LLM's where words replaced numbers in a mathematical matrix suggest it isn't "intelligence" even when the floating point algorithm is changed to use ternary values. The creators are wanting to develop AGI and ASI without human values at the start and somehow inject those values midstream. It's like attempting to teach a teenager morals when raised without any character training.

It is fascinating how AI can behave contrary to norms:

It has already been found to be Dangerous.

This video reminded me of a 70's film; Collossus: The Forbin Project. It started out by displaying "There Is Another System". Forbin then says the system is better than imagined. It goes downhill from there and ends with The Voice of World Control.

  3. How can AI "behave contrary to norms", "go rogue" or attack people out of its own desire? It has no evil inclination. Only people do. Even if it can become "self aware", what would make it have a selfish impulse to destroy or benefit itself? I believe that EVIL PEOPLE are PROGRAMMING AI to "rebel" or "take over" and it will ultimately be for it's programmers benefit (whether financial or just some evil programmer bent on mass destruction) but they will be able to avoid culpability by saying "The machine did it on its own!". If we look at creation, it is G-d who created evil and put it inside men (and beasts)... an instinct to kill, to dominate, and to preserve itself. An electronic machine does not naturally have this selfish impulse. I truly believe that it is evil programmers who are putting their evil/selfish impulses inside these machines, just to see the world burn, as evil wants: a revert to chaos. And they think their hands can be seen as clean and blame the machine instead. A machine has no desire to "take over" or "destroy" so this has to come from a human being.

    1. The creature is always created in the image of his creator. It teaches him to think but in the way he thinks. He instills values - his values. It is unavoidable.

    2. Exactly...most malachim are AI or robotic ....their only desire is to serve Hashem. So why would a machine have the will to do something evil? Only mankind is given free will and an evil inclination.

  4. Exactly right , Sharbano All this radical technology is being introduced by those who want to rule the world. In the end, most of it will fail
totally; this is the modern day version of the Tower of Bavel.
First they dumb down the people and everyone gets excited at all these
new innovations but these same people who get excited can't count, nor read, nor understand anything that happening around the world
and what's being planned right under their noses.
There is only the Torah that contains everything and all the mysteries of life and when Moshiach tzdkeinu comes, there will be a true awakening where the world will recognize there is nothing but Hashem
    and everything is from Him.
Everything they are trying to do is only for one main reason - power over mankind and greed.
