Eid ul-adha is the second Eid celebration of the year, the first being Eid al-Fitr which took place in May.The celebration of Eid ul-adha, which is considered to be the holier of the two Eids, is to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion to Allah, who was willing to sacrifice his son, Ismail. At the point of sacrifice, Allah replaced Ismail with a ram, which was to be sacrificed in place of his son.The original command from Allah was a test of Prophet Ibrahim’s commitment to obey his Lord’s command, without question. Therefore, Eid ul-adha means the festival of sacrifice. This event is mentioned in the Quran, the Islamic Holy Book. When is Eid ul-adha this year? The day of Eid ul-adha falls on the tenth day in the twelfth and final month of the Islamic Lunar Calendar, Dhu-al-Hijjah.The day on which celebrations for Eid-ul-adha falls is dependent on a legitimate sighting of the moon, following the completion of the Holy Pilgrimage of Hajj – an annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, the holiest city for Muslims.
Allegedly, a call has gone out to Muslims everywhere to come to the Temple Mount and camp there for this ten-day period.
Their beliefs about this holiday directly contradict the Torah account of the akeida and therefore, everything our national claims and rights are based upon. That's why the Temple Mount is rightfully in "their" hands, according to them. It will correspond this year to 10 Tammuz on our calendar...
On 9 Tammuz
In 423 BCE, Nebuchadnezzar's troops breached the walls of old Jerusalem and entered the city. Four weeks later, the Holy Temple was destroyed, and the Jews were exiled to Babylon. Originally, a day of fasting and mourning was observed on the 9th of Tammuz. Seventy years later, however, when the Second Temple was built, the fast was abolished and the day was turned into a holiday. Some 500 years later when Jerusalem fell on the 17th of Tammuz -- prior to the destruction of the Second Temple -- the Sages decreed the 17th of Tammuz as a fast day to commemorate both tragedies. May we soon see the day when all the nations of the world acknowledge the Oneness of God as well as the Truth of the Torah and the Righteousness of the Jewish Nation.
