Deri Calls for Interim Agreement with PA
MK Aryeh Deri (Shas) responded on Thursday evening to U.S. President Barack Obama’s speech at the Binyanei HaUma in Jerusalem, and called on the Israeli government to resume negotiations with the Palestinian Authority, so that an interim agreement can be reached that will guarantee Israel security and give PA Arabs an opportunity to develop a stable economy and a strong democracy.
“It’s heartwarming to know that the American president was attentive to the people of Israel. He understood that he should be talking at eye level and not through political mediation. Yet the Middle East is still a little more turbulent and unstable,” said Deri.
“We must remember that the Land of Israel, as is written in the Torah, belongs to us. We are not conquerors in our own land. Yet we have millions of neighbors in Judea, Samaria and Gaza that we should consider. We have no desire to interfere in their lives, and we cannot annex these territories and give them citizenship,” added Deri.
I live in the "West Bank." Arabs are still being brought here to work and as I am a renter, I have no choice about who my landlord brings in to make repairs. Yesterday, I watched out my window as an older Arab instructed his younger Arab helper to empty out a partial bag of concrete onto my seedling fig tree. This is who our "neighbors" are and much, much worse.
Rabbi Meir Kahane, of blessed memory, wrote a book called They Must Go. It is as applicable today as it was when he wrote it. And despite Obama's remarks about this being an extreme view, it is still the truth.
And why is Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef making such a big deal about going out see Obama and making a Bracha; we never heard this about previous presidents.
ReplyDeleteIs just the usual pandering, behaving as if Obama is something special.

He didn't make a big deal. The media (both religious and non-religious) made a big deal. This is his psak halacha. Why must everything be considered pandering?
ReplyDeleteSome have interpreted it to mean that since Obama tramples over the Constitution, which only allows Congress to declare war, so he is the only president who is like a king.
However, I believe he means any president since he is the Commander in Chief, and could kill the enemy at any time he wants, even without a declaration of war.
I'm not sure how safe you are there. At least consider getting a gun. Now that you live in Binyamin, it shouldn't be as difficult.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry. I'm always armed.
