The Best News Ever!

13 Menachem Av 5775

According to Ynet which is quoting Jonathan Pollard's attorneys, it is now official that he will be released from prison on 20 November 2015. As it stands now, according to the terms of his parole, he will be required to remain in the United States under restrictions for five years, which is standard for the sentence imposed upon him.

We thank Hashem for hearing and responding favorably to all our prayers and trust Him to continue to support and protect Jonathan Pollard until he can set foot on holy soil.

In honor of this wonderful news, I refer the readers to an Op-Ed by Jonathan Pollard from two years ago at this time...

Restoring Israel to Greatness

B"H!!! Didn't Rav Mordechai Eliyahu say that the liberation of Pollard will signal and be connected to the liberation of Jews from Golus? Also his name was changed much like Joshua some years ago...maybe someone can elaborate on this siman (Motzei Shmita!)

    1. If I recall correctly, Rav Eliyahu said that Jonathan Pollard's redemption and the redemption of Klal Yisrael were one and the same. It also does not escape notice that the parole hearing took place during the three weeks (20 Tamuz) and the news of his release went around the world in headlines on Tisha b'Av. Furthermore, he is scheduled for release "motzaei shvi'it". Truly may Jonathan Pollard's redemption be one and the same with the complete redemption for us all.

  3. I literally cannot believe it.
    It's so sudden!
It's like he would never be up for parole or pardon and then in the blink of an eye....
I guess we still need to keep davening that everything should go well for him and that he should still be released immediately and be able to come to Eretz Yisrael immediately anyway.
Thanks for pointing out all the connections to the 3 Weeks and Tisha B'Av, Devash.

  5. An anonymous commenter who did not use a name wanted to point out that Pollard's birthday is also on 8 Av. Something else interesting is that the Hebrew date of his arrest fell on 8 Kislev in 1985. While he was going to be released on 21 November, they moved it up a day to 20 November because of Shabbat. This year 20 November is 8 Kislev. And, of course, 5776, being the year after shmitta could also be counted as an 8th year.

  6. All honor and glory to HaShem for this announcement! Now, we must look to Him to make it so. I admit this sounds like I don't believe it. I am stunned.

I also find it hard to believe because America's word is not to be trusted! But I have to remember that they are only a stick in His hand, and He can decide to put it down as well as wield it. I, too, been praying for Jonathan (matir asurim) every morning for quite a while, so I am happy to rejoice in his upcoming release with everyone who has been praying for him.

Concerning his not being able to come to Israel for 5 years: If Mashiach should arrive and be crowned Motzaei Shvi'it, do you think any nation will be able to resist his request? If he wants Jonathan to come home, he will be home, along with all the rest of the exiles, and maybe leading them.
