Look How Things Are Speeding Up

11 Iyyar 5775
Day 26 of the Omer

The twin towers fell in 2001. The space shuttle Columbia fell to earth in 2003. The stock market fell in 2007.

In the past week we've had volcanic ash fallingsnow falling, hail falling, avalanches falling, buildings falling, PEOPLE falling and spacecraft falling. What will be next?

(Yeshayahu 24:18-20):
And it shall come to pass, that he who flees from the sound of the fright shall fall into the pit, and he who ascends from within the pit shall be snared in the trap, for windows from above have been opened and the foundations of the earth have trembled.
The earth has broken; the earth has crumbled; the earth totters.
The earth sways like a drunken man, and it sways like a lodge, and its transgression shall weigh down upon it, and it shall fall and not continue to rise.

  1. Explains why I am a nervous wreck all day long.

We also had another building collapse in NY, two in the last two months.

    1. 'Collapse' seems to be the overriding message here.

    1. This is good news. It's evil and sheker that's collapsing.

  3. Yes, Devash- true. Look at Yeranen Yaakov's blog, too. He also quotes this where the mountains are Nefal (Nepal) falling and no more farther can they fall (or something to this effect.) We need to do some serious teshuvah.
I believe Hashem is definitely trying to wake us up.

  4. Has there been a report of any Jews dying in Nepal?

  5. The amount and variety of "falling" in the past week is just astounding. Thanks for bringing it all together, Devash.

Looking at the past couple of years, the large passenger planes falling out of the sky and meteors falling to earth in an obvious and even damaging manner are things that rarely happened before. And all the sudden, they start happening now -- and not just once, either.

I'm seconding Leah's comment. In His great Mercy, Hashem is giving us extra time and warning to get our act together.

I guess we're familiar with what the Chafetz Chaim said regarding a Russian earthquake in 1925:
"I encouraged Klal Yisrael to do teshuva and that the earthquake was a warning to the entire world that they should repent of their evil ways and believe in Hashem Who controls all."

  7. Kikar: Rav Shternbuch: The earthquake is a message for Am Yisrael and is due to Arayot and Mishkav Zachar, quoting a Midrash. HKB"H sent it to a faraway land because He has mercy upon us, but still caused devastation so we don't forget the punishment for these sins.
