Just when you think it can't get any worse...

I actually hope Obama wins today's US election. Israelis have no illusions about Obama being a "friend of Israel." If we go the Romney route, it will be taking a step backwards to the times when Israelis and Israeli politicians believed they had a "friend" in the White House to look to for help. At least with Obama, Jews will have to look more and more to HKB"H and less and less to America and that is a big positive for us as a people.

It doesn't matter who takes office, the policies remain the same, but at least with Obama there are no more illusions - the truth is out. Our salvation comes from HASHEM, not America!!

That said, you may be able to understand my consternation when reading the following article.  This is beyond sick, in my view. I find the whole idea utterly disgusting!

Kabbalists pray for 'Moses' Romney's victory

A quorum of kabbalists on Tuesday staged a secret prayer meant to land Mitt Romney win the White House.

The 10 ultra-religious men convened at Jerusalem's Ish Chayil yeshiva to open the Torah ark – a ritual saved for special occasions – and chant a series of invocations calling for divine intervention to "bring down" incumbent President Barack Obama.

For the sake of the exclusive ceremony, the Republican challenger, a Mormon, was dubbed "Moses Romney" with the suffix "Shlita," an honor usually granted to the most venerable of rabbis.

"This kind of prayer can turn worlds upside down," said Shmuel Ben-Atar, a haredi radio presenter who took part in the service. "We ask the people of Israel to pray that Obama – who doesn't like Israel – is brought down."

According to Ben-Attar, the formula that is certain to get Romney to win the presidency includes the repeated recitation of certain Psalms, a prayer for victory said over the open Torah ark – and giving a shekel to the needy.

"People called us from America and asked us to bring about heavenly mercy," he said. "People around the world will pray tonight for Moses Mitt Romney."

Just in case Tuesday's session isn't enough, a delegation of worshippers from the yeshiva is scheduled to travel to the Western Wall at midnight, where they will continue to read Psalms.

"Tonight we will pray profusely for an American leader who will hear our plight," Ben-Attar said.

  1. Although, I find it disturbing that these Kabbalists would refer Romney to a "Moses", I believe they have good intentions. If Obama wins, there will be, c'v, mu ch suffereing amongst yiddim in Israel and the US. Osama said it himself, "if you want revenge, vote". So, to pray that Obama wins, is IMO, self-righteous and insensitive to fellow Yidden like myself who still live in the US.

There are many yidden who live in the US want Moshiach desperately. However, we will move to EY when Moshaich comes. And I believe when the time happens, I'YH our reward will be greater.

  2. I didn't "pray" one way or the other. I can only pray that Hashem's will be done, because I don't know His intentions. All the world "leaders" are merely tools in His hands that He uses to deal with the Jews. I just have a feeling that Hashem is not finished using Barak Hussein Obama yet.

What's more dangerous to the Jews than the Obama presidency is this warped idea that not only is it NOT a mitzvah to dwell in Eretz HaKodesh, but it IS a mitzvah to remain in the exile against Hashem's express wishes and that this rebellion even gains for you a greater reward.

You won't find any basis for that belief anywhere in Tanakh. It's not even logical.

Learn to read the signs correctly or it's going to cost you more than you think. And don't go counting your rewards just yet. You might be very disappointed.

  3. Devash, it is absolutely in Hashem's hands, but we have to do our histadlus . And if that means to vote against a Rasha Gamur, then we are doing our part to help yidden in Galus (this includes EY).

However, I must disagree with you with your second comment that there are people who believe that it is NOT a mitzvah to live in EY.We do believe that it is a mitzvah. However, because EY is being run by non-frum yidden who don't acknowledge Hashem, according to many people, it is not time for all yidden to move there.

According to the Lubavitcher Rebbe (and many other great Tzaddikim), when the State of EY got their 'independence', He paskened that it was not the right time. However, in the 60's, he stated that Hashem gave yidden in EY three opportunities (1948, 1956 and 1969) to acknowledge Him, but failed. Because of this, he said that after each war MOshiach was delayed. So once all of kl'al yisroel (including the not frum)acknowledge Hashem's unity, Moshiach will come. speedily.

  4. Your hishtadlut is to do what Hashem says and then He will send God-fearing leaders to the world for the benefit of everyone.

Can you tell me any other "mitzvah" that is dependent upon the quality of your environment? And how can you imply that living among the goyim on lands of tumah is preferable to living in Eretz HaKodesh where Hashem placed His Name even under imperfect leadership. You are talking like the ten spies!

Judgment is coming upon the nations and you Jews in chu"l are right in its path. Hashem keeps telling you to move - get out of the way - come home so He can protect you - but you insist on having your own way. You are depending on a miracle to save you, something which is forbidden. Don't complain later that you did not know.

  5. mg - This is the real point of my post:

...I’m sorry to say that the idea that one man will do less damage than the other is a naïve sentiment. Democrat? Republican? Obama? Romney? The crimes and calamities wrought will be exactly the same.

    Read it here.
